Mega Man Legends 3 Cancelled

Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS has been cancelled announced Capcom.

Mega Man Legends 3 was to be a revival of the action RPG series that was originally released for the original PlayStation (Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2, as well as spin-off The Misadventures of Tron Bonne), although the new game looked like it would be very similar to past titles.

The game originally got quite a bit of publicity when it was announced that a demo version of the game, called Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version, would be released as an exclusive launch title for the e-Shop on 3DS. However the eShop release date came and went without a sign of Mega Man Legends 3, which should’ve been the writing on the wall for the troubled development of the title.

Capcom says the departure of Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune didn’t have anything to do with the cancellation of the project, and that it simply didn’t live up to the standards Capcom expects. While some suspect that the lower-than-expected system sales for the 3DS were the real culprit.

Another Mega Man game, Mega Man Universe, was also cancelled earlier in the year. Marking a troubled recent history for the storied Blue Bomber.
