It certainly was a real shame. I think review copies and stock if Rule of Rose had already been shipped to the UK.
They were ready to stock the shelves on the release day, then it was banned lol! It was definitely an oddball situation. xD
Then again, as you said, the popular debate right now is how video games ‘affect the minds of our youth.’
Soon they’ll be playing games backwards and finding words like devil being said haha!

I know that it was definitely banned over here in the UK. We had review copies and stock sent over but it was never released!
It caused a little controversy in other countries but I’m pretty sure it was banned only in the UK :/

It was because of the underlying sexual and violent themes involving minors (though to say they were subtle is the understatement of the century.)
I don’t think the game was really understood, which is why its was banned. Its a real shame. It is such a triumph in story, visuals, score and atmosphere.

Without even looking into the games content, some countries banned it on the day of release (the UK for one) based on an Italian PM(?) saying it dealt with inappropriate themes dealing with children…it doesn’t. Another case of the government and media vilifying the games industry.

In my country UAE in Middle East here’s the list of games are banned,

1. Grand Theft Auto
2. God of War
3. Darksiders
4. Dead Rising 2
5. Call of Duty 4
6. Heavy Rain

For some reason I got all of them.
