Video Game Stores will disappear?

“Nerdy News” is a mini-news show geared towards gamers, technosexuals, and all other geeky peeps.

In this twenty-fourth episode of Nerdy News, I’ll be reporting on:

  • A video game helping doctors monitor rehabilitation progress.
  • The strength of the video game industry despite a slow economy.
  • Video game companies preparing for the end of video games stores.
  • Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sales are still going strong.

Here’s the new episode of Nerdy News!

What do you think?

Do you think video games could be useful in helping rehabilitation patients? Have you considered a career in the video game industry? How do you feel about the industry moving towards being fully digital? Will there always be gamers who prefer physical games on disks? Could going digital translate to savings for consumers? Have you recently bought or planning to buy a Xbox 360 or Kinect motion controller?

If you have any advice or tips on how I can improve these videos let me know in the comments! Thanks for all of your opinions! ^_^

I purchased digital games for PSP Go for my boy then for myself I purchased Starcraft 2 online instead of the actual Physical CD last year. For our Wii and Xbox 360 games  I still buy it at game store. Still not ready for shutting down game stores. Give me another year.

If they remove games and go to a purely digital download venue, they will have to make the games burnable to disc because who is going to have the space to put all these games on thier system, i barely have room for just my game saves

As Guest 76 says, there will have to be a way to transfer the data to a
disc once you are done with the game. Otherwise you’re not saving money
at all if you can’t return the game, say if you purchased the game from
    GameStop for example.

Also, there’s limited memory for these consoles so you’d have to buy more
memory which costs more money. You can do that with the XBox 360 but
not so much with the PS3 or Wii.

Digital games are great but more so with portable handhelds like the PSP or
    3DS.
I don’t believe it is a wise move to make such a drastic change in the
video game market, for consoles specifically.
