Marvel vs Capcom 3: Ultimate Edition Announced (Xbox 360, PS3)

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Ultimate Edition has been announced by Capcom for release this November 2011 at a discounted price point of $40.

Like with Super Street Fighter IV, which was an updated version of Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom 3: Ultimate Edition will be a major update to the original Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds that released in February to much critical acclaim and high sales. Naturally, Capcom wants to extend the life of this bonafide hit while giving fans even more value.

To that end, here is what’s new in MvC3: Ultimate:

  • 12 New Characters
  • 8 New Stages
  • Spectator Mode where you can watch online battles between players.
  • Other new modes
  • Rebalanced gameplay

Obviously, while new stages, modes and balance tweaks are great, the highlight of any new fighting game is the cast of characters, and particularly the case of NEW fighters. Marvel vs Capcom 3: Ultimate Edition DOES NOT disappoint in this category with a whopping twelve new fighters being added, which increases the roster to an incredible 50 characters.

So who are the new characters? Officially, only four have been revealed: Ghost Rider and Hawkeye from Marvel, and Strider and Firebrand (Ghost ‘N Goblins) from Capcom.

However, the full roster has actually been leaked. Here it is is

*SPOILER ALERT* Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Dr. Strange, Nova, Iron Fist, Rocket Raccoon from Marvel — Firebrand, Strider, Frank West, Phoenix Wright, Vergil and Nemesis from Capcom.

And fans will note that two of the Capcom characters, Phoenix Wright and Frank West, were originally planned for release in the last game but were ultimately axed. So it’s great to see them included. *END SPOILER*

Capcom had planned to slowly unveil each character, although they likely still will do that with new videos giving the full reveal of each one. Of course, if you heeded the spoiler warning, you can still be surprised.
