Call of Duty Action Adventure game may still happen

A Call of Duty Action Adventure game may still be in the works according to Sledgehammer Games.
You may remember that a Call of Duty Action Adventure game was previously in development by Sledgehammer Games back when Infinity Ward was headed up by Jason West and Vince Zampella.
However Sledgehammer was then tapped to help develop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. So what happened to the action adventure game?
Well it may actually still be in development, so says Sledgehammer. Speaking to IndustryGamers, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said the following.
To quote:
“Right now Sledgehammer’s 100% focused on Modern Warfare 3,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told IndustryGamers. “We haven’t announced the future slate or future plans for the studio. They were originally working on an extension of the Call of Duty franchise into an action/adventure genre and that’s a game I still want to play. That’s a supreme, incredible group doing that. All I can say is right now they’re 100% focused on Modern Warfare 3.”
So apparently a dedicated “supreme, incredible group” is still on tap developing the title while the main crew finishes Modern Warfare 3.
And after finishing it, they may refocus to the action adventure title. It’ll be interesting to see if Activision does head in that direction after MW3, given that many have begun to tired of the continuous annual releases in the first-person perspective. Or maybe they could use that game to tie us over until the next one.
Do you think a Call of Duty Action Adventure game would be a cool idea?
