Gears of War 3 will be hitting this September and has already made its mark as the most pre-ordered game in Xbox 360 history, and one of the most exciting aspects of the game is what Epic Games is doing to tweak, freshen up and improve the Horde Mode in the game.
Many new features make this a completely different mode. Although you are still fighting off waves of enemies, you can now build “fortifications”, which are essentially traps or barriers to help you in the fight against the Locust Horde. These include spike strips, laser blockades, a walking mech machine, turrets, decoys and more. In addition to the game includes an in-depth currency system.
Every kill is worth cash, and you can use that cash to upgrade your fortifications one at a time, buy new ones, upgrade your weapons, purchase new weapons, buy ammo or even buy an extra life!
Additionally, the whole thing has been streamlined with new features making the co-op much easier and funner to play. You can now easily exchange weapons with your partners, exchange cash or even share ammo!
And adding additional layers are new missions and side-quests that you’ll get as you play. If you take these on, you can earn more weapons and cash and other goodies. There is also a boss wave!
This new briefing video gives you a metric ton of new gameplay footage of Horde in action as each of the above features is broken down. Keep in mind that Horde Mode is only a small aspect of this juggernaut of a game. This is in addition to the Gears of War 3 campaign mode and the online multiplayer deathmatch, of course.
