Gaming Can Make You Kinder
“Nerdy News” is a mini-news show geared towards gamers, technosexuals, and all other geeky peeps.

In this eighteenth episode of Nerdy News, I’ll be reporting on:

  • The surprising average age of gamers.
  • Video games that make people kinder.
  • The statistics smashing gamer stereotypes.
  • How parents really feel about their kids gaming.
  • Here’s the new episode of Nerdy News!

What do you think? Do certain games make you feel kinder and more relaxed? How do you feel about the statistics found by The Entertainment Software Association? Do you feel that gaming with your family is “quality time”? Do you trust the Entertainment Software Rating Board rating system?

If you have any advice or tips on how I can improve these videos let me know in the comments! Thanks for all of your opinions! ^_^

I don’t think we should be surprised at the ages of games players.  I’ve played since the mid 70s and am still a keen gamer, one of my sons in his 40′s plays and most of my grandchildren play video games.
The biggest difference I see, is that while my son and I play mostly on pc with consoles as secondary, my grandchildren use mainly consoles for their gaming pleasure.

i wonder why companies aim their games at the 18-25 market so much when clearly the average age is higher these days?

I agree with your point when it comes to console games. I have found that a lot of PC games tend to be more mature with their plot. Then again I’m 22 so I’m in the age range that developers aim their games at but as a woman I still feel left out sometimes by game developers. I think it’s important for developers to hear these statistics so that they realize they need to take care of their whole audience.

Actually, something I’ve notice over the past decade is a lot of moms and dads who are gamers. Some of them are into it from when they were younger but a lot of parents are discovering gaming because their kids are into it. I think that’s one reason for the surge in family-oriented games and the reason for the popularity of the Wii. Now I think game developers need to start to think about these statistics and develop more games for a broader audience. I think games like Heavy Rain and L.A. Noire are a step in the right direction as far as giving older audiences mature games.
