Here is another Gamer Habits video. Todays habit? “I DIDN’T TELL YOU TO DO THAT!”

Now we all know as hardcore gamers that there are certain shared tendencies and similarities. Whether its turning up to work with a ‘gaming hangover’ or swinging the controller around to aid in movement – we all do it and should take pride in our habits :)

Here’s the second “Let’s Talk” episode about gamer habits.

Here’s the first Gamer Habits episode I referenced.

    Diagnosis:

The “I didn’t tell you to do that habit’ occurs when the player of a videogame finds an action or level too challenging and blames the character or avatar of which they are in control.

This is very similar to the ‘a poor workman blames his tools’ analogy; when all is going well in-game the player happily takes credit. BUT when things become too difficult the game or playable character is to blame.

I am the worst culprit of this ;)

So does anyone else feel this way? Perhaps you have other habits you’d like to share? please leave a comment in the comment section below!

I can’t help it, I HAVE to say it for good luck: Bless you!

More on-topic, I think really great games make you realize it was you who messed up and not the controls. You’ll curse 2D games like N+ and Bangai-O but you’ll know you’re not good enough yet to beat the level. Last time I felt like that was in the 3D Super Mario Galaxy when I kept falling off the water-track when riding the stringray and I went from denial “No don’t do that you stupid smiling mantis!” and “Listen to me this time Mario!” to acceptance “Oh man, I’m really bad at this, need to retry it a few more times to get the trick.” :)

    • Lmao

so what you’re saying is that it isn’t the game’s fault when something goes awry? my reality just got shattered, thanks a lot! lol!

      @videogamer:disqus Haha thank you! :D
Oh gosh, old-skool platformer were the worst for this kind of habit wasn’t it? You’d make a jump easily the first try and then when you have to do it again it’s just impossible!! xD
Lol I don’t think I ever go through the acceptance phase :$

@ea6ecebb47cc1b53dd6cf9a523c10b85:disqus Shooters can be pretty frustrating alright! I’ve never thrown my controller though but I’m pretty tight when it comes to money lol so if I break it I’ll be down a controller … that is assuming that I have enough upper body strength to break a controller hahaha! Thanks for watching!

@451f2be143fb17a8913c0f802e7baa2a:disqus I know I know, its a bitter pill to swallow. I cried when I found out the games I played weren’t cheating me ;) Lol thanks for watching!

@facebook-1603260387:disqus Wehyey! We can all unite in our gaming habits ahaha! Thanks again for watching and supportin man :D

I must have done that constantly throughout Mirror’s Edge. So true.

I found I have a habit of moving from side to side when trying to dodge bullets in FPS games, or looking up or down when my character in a game is doing that. I also “lean” to look around corners. :P

i know people who make controllers fly o.0 xD my own habbit is buttonsmashing if i get cornered in fight games or shooters xD

Another trend that goes hand in hand with this one is online multiplayer team games. People tend to not want to communicate when they are randoms (unless you’re a girl!) Now what I noticed in these games is people have a hard time thinking that they aren’t the only ones playing in that server, that everyone else is an npc to them and will be treated as such. What I’m getting at is the lack of teamwork this generates. You can keep saying hey we have no one on D and it’s CTF but how often will someone actually listen? Even with a specfic names no wai npc lvled teamate. Oh and my favorite is TF2 “OMFG we have no medics and they have like 15″ and still no one flips…. Then the blames start to happen (most keep that to themselves) then another trend in public servers or w/e losing or dying = leave the server no matter how well matched. Am I the only one that sees this I tend to be a bit of a maverick.
