Shinobi 3DS has been officially announced as an all-new game in the series for Nintendo’s new stereoscopic 3D system; It goes by the simple “reboot” title of “Shinobi”. Snazzy.

You’ll recall that Sega previously rebooted the Shinobi series way back in 2002 for the PlayStation 2; a then-new system, where the game also went by the simple title of “Shinobi”.

The 3DS Shinobi is being developed by Griptonite Games and is a fierce side-scrolling action gameplay title with polygonal graphics but a subtle hand-drawn graphical style.

The game tells the story of Jiro Musashi, the leader of the Oboro clan. A true Ninja legend, players will use a brand-new combo system that allows you to switch seamlessly between melee, ranged and acrobatic attacks; While having access to Jiro’s Ninja Magic that will help you get out of tight spots and take advantage or enemy weaknesses.

“For years the fans have been asking for a new Shinobi,” said Gary Knight, SVP of marketing at SEGA West. “With Shinobi on Nintendo 3DS we are able to answer their prayers and bring this legendary series to the next level.”

The game is scheduled for release in September 2011 and will take advantage of StreetPass and include in-game Achievements to earn and challenges to unlock.
