Angry Birds series hits 200 million downloads mark

It prints money!
The Angry Birds franchise has sold over 200 million copies, or rather, hit the 200 million downloads mark, a major, major milestone for the still-pretty-young catapult puzzler.

The news was given at the Next11 Conference, where it was also revealed that over 5 million web downloads of Angry Birds have also already been downloaded, only a week following the release of the browser-based version of Angry Birds.

A big future for the franchise is in store, as more versions of the game are headed to additional platforms to join the already released iOS, Android, Browser/Facebook, Windows Phone 7, PlayStation Mini PS3/PSP, Google Chrome, Mac App Store versions and the new platform versions that are currently in development include WiiWare, 3DS, DS and Xbox Live Arcade.

No word on what we might see revealed at E3 2011 in ten short days. Could we possibly finally ee the Angry Birds 2/Angry Pigs sequel that plays from the Pigs perspective?! An Angry Birds movie has also been rumored to be in development, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw something on that front at E3.

Let the speculation begin!

Here is a video interview with Angry Birds creator, Rovio’s Peter “The Mighty Eagle” Vesterbacka, where he announces the 200 million mark on camera.
