Metro 2033 sequel titled Metro: Last Light

Metro
Metro 2034 is not the name of “Metro 2033 2” announced THQ, it will instead be officially titled “Metro: Last Night”.

The new title was confirmed in a conference call by the publisher and the sequels existance has been known since last June 2009.

No other information on the sequel is known, but it was originally called “2034” by THQ when they were demoing the original game in 3D and a spokesman said (about a possible sequel) “We’re going to be doing a 3D version of that on Metro 2034 — the sequel. And there will be some engineering costs there, but that’s in our lowest cost center in the world. Those games are unbelievably reasonable, they’re built in Kiev.”
games are unbelievably reasonable, they’re built in Kiev.”

And in recent times there were two domain registrations that hinted at the possible names of the sequel, including “Metro: Last Light” and “Metro 2033: Last Light”. Obviously they have now officially dropped the “2033” from the title.

The choice not to call the game sequel “Metro 2034” is an interesting one because the original game was based on the Russian novel “Metro 2033” by Dmitry Glukhovsky, whose book sequel was titled “2034”. The original videogame, Metro 2033, was a pretty big hit.

More about the sequel at E3 2011 undoubtedly.
