Portal is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation. Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuver objects, and themselves, through space.

- GLaDOS Boss Battle
Portal contains only two characters, the player-controlled Chell and GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System), a computer AI that monitors, directs and misleads Chell in a kind of twisted experiment. It’s not exactly a match made in heaven.
Regardless, Chell must rely on information provided by GLaDOS to survive as she navigates through a series of mostly doorless rooms using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (“portal gun”). The portal gun creates two portal ends, one orange and the other blue. Both are simultaneously a potential entrance and exit and objects, alive or otherwise, that travel through one end will exit the other at the same speed. In addition, portals create a visual and physical connection between two different locations in 3D space. Their ends are restricted to planar surfaces, but if the portal ends are on nonparallel planes, bizarre twists in geometry and gravity can occur as the player character is immediately reoriented to be upright with respect to gravity after leaving a portal. Chell can pass through open portals at will, but barriers, known as “Material Emancipation Grids” or ‘fizzlers’ prevent players from carrying objects beyond them. Luckily certain objects, known as ‘companion cubes’ can be tossed through. Once through these can then be used as the player wishes. Passage through these fields also closes any open portals, so it’s important to look before you leap. It’s Chell’s challenge and yours to survive the hazards of the portals, including bobby traps, hidden gun turrets and the treachery of GLaDOS in the search for eventual freedom.
Welcome to Chamber 0!
When you start this level you will wake up from a long sleep, you will be greeted by Glados! You will need to wait around until the computer starts and generates a portal.
When you can see the portal you will need to step into the portal and follow the path, you will be able to see a button, head over and stand on the button, you will then need to pick up the cube that falls and place it on the button, once you have placed the cube on the button make your way over to the lift and take it up.
Welcome to the First Chamber!.
You will be in a room that has portals that will change positions, you will need to make your way over to the cube and place it on the button, once you have placed the cube on the button, you will need to make your way out of the room.
You are now in the Second Chamber, you will be able to see the weapon that shoots the portals, you will need to be patient and wait until the weapon shoots the portal close to you, once it shoots the portal near to you, you will need to make your way into the portal and pick up the portal gun.
This will allow you to shoot a one coloured portal, once you have picked up your gun you will need to make your way to the exit.
When you arrive in the chamber, you will need to shoot a portal near where you are standing, once you have shot your portal, you will need to shoot a second portal near the exit of the chamber, jump into your portal and you will emerge at the exit and make your way into the lift and take it to the next chamber.
Once you have arrived in Chamber 4, you will need to make your way over to the red button, this will cause the device to drop the cube into the chamber below. Use your portal gun to shoot a portal near the cube and jump down into the chamber. Pick up the cube and drop down through your portal.
Once you have dropped down through your portal, you will need to place your cube on the button and head through the exit in front of you.
When you arrive in the chamber you will need to shoot your portal on the wall near the furthest button, once through the portal, you will need to shoot another portal next to the cube across the way, once you have shot your portal, you will need to head through the portal and push the cube onto the floor below. After you have pushed the cube, drop down and head over to the chamber in the floor where the second cube is located.
Shoot the portal under the cube, this will cause the cube to fall through the portal. Once it has fallen through the portal, step back a bit and shoot a portal on the wall to the right hand side. You will be able to see your cube here. Head through and pick up the cube and place it on the button.
You will then need to pick up the first cube and place it on the button, this will cause the door to open.
Welcome to Chamber 6!
When you walk into the Chamber, you will see the energy balls falling from the device, you will need to shoot a portal at the right hand device, you will need to shoot this portal on the ceiling, this will cause the energy ball to fall into the second device.
Once the energy ball has fallen into the second device, you will see the platform lower, walk onto the platform and it will lift you up to the elevator which will take you to Chamber 7.
When you arrive in this Chamber, you will need to look to the right and shoot a portal which will allow the energy ball to float through the portal, the energy ball will then make its way into the device, it will then cause the platform to start to move, you will need to place a portal above the moving platform and the second portal on the floor under the device.
Look through the portal and wait until you are able to see the platform, once you can see the platform, you will need to jump through the portal and land on the platform below.
Wait until the platform reaches the opening to the lift and head towards the lift to complete the Chamber.
Make your way into the new Chamber, first thing you will need to do is make your way onto the platform and shoot a portal on the wall behind you.
Step through the portal and crouch down cause the energy ball will hit you in the head, you will need to shoot your portal on the wall the energy ball is going towards. Once you have placed that portal, you will need to shoot the second portal on the wall on the left.
This will cause the energy cube to fly through both portals and hit the device on the opposite wall.
Once the energy ball hits the portal you will need to shoot the portal above the moving platforms, use the orange portal to peak through to see if you can see the platform, you will need to do some precise portal shooting.
Once you have placed it in the correct place, you will need to jump through and land on the platform. Once you have landed on the platform, you will need to stand on the platform and ride over to the other side and make your way into the lift
Welcome to Chamber 9!
Make your way over to the cube and place a portal on the wall to the left, carry the cube through the portal and shoot another portal on the wall above the door, drop back down through the blue portal and place the cube on the button to open the door.
Head through the door and into the lift.
First thing you will need to do is shoot a portal on the floor once you see the orange portal appear. Once you have shot the portal, jump through and you will need to shoot another portal on the floor at the end of the walkway.
Jump through the portal located on the floor and head through the door in front of you, jump over the edge and head up the stairs.
You will see that there will be an orange portal located at the bottom of the stairs, once you have made it to the top of the stairs, you will see that there is a platform that moves above you, shoot your portal on that moving platform and jump down through the orange one located at the bottom of the stairs.
When you land through the portal, look over the edge and shoot a second portal on the moving white platform, look directly down and jump through the orange portal which will lead you to the lift to chamber 11.
