Gears of War 4, 5, 6 and beyond just got more credo as Epic Games and Gears of War 3 Executive Producer Rod Fergusson has stated that they have many plans for the Gears of War franchise and that it will live on beyond Gears of War 3.
This will come as a surprise to absolutely, positively no one, given the extreme success of the series, but this is the first nugget suggesting that there will be another new game beyond Gears 3.
To quote Rod:
“We’re not blowing up the world so Sera and the Gears universe will live on, but for us we didn’t want to betray our customers and community by having a cliff-hanger ending where you’re like ‘argh I just got duped, now I’ve gotta wait until the next game. We’re not going to reveal everything because we want some mystique left in our universe, but this is the Marcus Fenix story and people should feel satisfied after playing through that.”
In other words, the ending for Gears of War 3 will cap the series off in Trilogy fashion without leaving fans hanging, but the key word is when he says it is “Marcus Fenix’s story”, leaving the door open to telling the stories of other characters for a future title beyond Gears 3.
Would you be satisfied if they completely ended the series at Gears of War 3? Or do you want to see the series continue?
