Rayman 3D brings classic platforming to 3DS launch

Rayman 2: The Great Escape on 3DS in Rayman 3D
Ubisoft taps their “oft-gone-to” classic, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and straight ports it for the 3DS launch with “Rayman 3D”. At least this time the game has stereoscopic 3D graphics and the controls have been remapped to the 3DS from the DS version of this game, and are easier to use thanks to the analog Circle Pad controls.

“Evil mechanical pirates led by the evil Razorbeard have enslaved the inhabitants of Rayman’s world in this Nintendo 3DS release based on the classic Rayman 2: The Great Escape. This Nintendo 3DS version features major updates on key game play elements such as accessibility, progression and learning curve.

In Rayman 3D, you must help Rayman collect four magical masks needed to wake a god who will make those pirates walk the plank for their crimes. As you journey through your adventure, you must pick up fragments of energy called “lums,” and you’ll also have the opportunity to free cute characters that have been captured and stuffed into cages by Razorbeard’s pirates.”

This game is actually a port of the Dreamcast version, which was a high-quality version already. But if you’ve already played Rayman 2 on Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PS2, iOS or the original DS, you may want to skip this one. But if you haven’t touched it in years, it’ll still bring you some excellent 3D platforming from a bygone era. Too bad they didn’t completely remake or upgrade it though…

Here is a trailer for Rayman 3D.
