Bust-A-Move Universe fills the puzzle game void for 3DS launch

Bust-A-Move Universe fills the 3DS puzzle void on the cheap
Everyone’s favorite bubble-popping puzzle game hits the 3DS launch with Bust-A-Move Universe, published by Square Enix (of all developers…).

Despite it being a Square game, this title is all puzzle-dropping and popping action as it always has been.

“Bust-A-Move Universe is the next iteration in the popular puzzle series that has remained a fan favorite since it first appeared in 1994 as a TAITO arcade game. While the standard gameplay mechanics remain the same – connect three or more colorful bubbles to make them disappear – several enhanced features will also make their debut in Bust-A-Move Universe.

Key features of Bust-A-Move Universe include:

  • Endless Bubble-Popping Fun: Clear round after round in Puzzle Mode with its explosive boss battles, or take on 100-second, 300-second or Nonstop Bubbles in Challenge Mode.
  • Simple Gameplay Mechanics: Shoot, connect and burst bubbles of the same color.
  • Full 3D Effects: Engaging gameplay in a vibrant, 3-D universe.
  • Familiar Cast: Iconic characters Bub and Bob are instantly recognized by gamers as the heroes of BUST-A-MOVE and BUBBLE BOBBLE.
  • So is there anything new in Bust-A-Move Universe? The answer is no. The game does not contain any online play or multiplayer whatsoever, and does not support any of the 3DS’ cool features like StreetPass. However it does have a budget price of $30, making it the cheapest 3DS title. Still it feels like a missed opportunity, but at least fans of puzzle games will have something to play at launch.
