Hitman 5 teased via viral marketing ads

Hitman 5 teaser viral marketing ad
Hitman 5 has been known or thought to be in development for a while now, following a comment made by a voice actor who said he had just done voice work on the game. However Hitman 5 had not been officially announced at that time and developer IO Interactive has remained mum on the subject since.

The game still hasn’t been officially announced, but Hitman 5’s existence took a real step towards officiality as a series of teasing clues to the game have started popping up all over the place. It can only mean viral marketing is at play!

The clues have been compiled by several Hitman fansites/forums and the like and helped by IO’s own community organizer.

The first clue include the signature Hitman barcode appearing in a catalog for the Sundance Film Festival which showed a box of donuts with a barcode ending in 47 branded with “Hitman series”.

When the advertisment was looked into by a forum member, they were sent another image, this time of some paperwork, another barcode, and Agent 47’s signature black gloves. That was followed by a third image featuring the barcode. All of the barcodes end with the number “47”. One of them is even very close to Agent 47’s own code, but not exact.

What all this means is anyone’s guess, but the most obvious is a viral marketing campaign for a future Hitman game, already known to be in development as stated above.

We’ll have to wait and see for official details, which I’m sure we will get at E3 2011 in June.
