Prey 2 has been officially announced! It will be released in 2012 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

A sequel to the overlooked and oft-forgotten 2006 first-person shooter Prey for PC, Mac and Xbox 360 that had the player starring as a Native American Cherokee who is abducted by Aliens but can tap into his mysterious Native spiritual energy to freely navigate the twisting environments as he sets out to rescue his girlfriend and grandfather.

The game is being developed by Human Head Studios, the same company behind the original game, and will use a “cutting edge id tech engine” to render gorgeous visuals. The game will be fully unveiled in the upcoming May issues of Official Xbox Magazine and PlayStation: The Official Magazine, as well as in magazines throughout Europe.

Our only details on the title are as follows: “This time, abandoned and framed for the disappearance of his family, Tommy escapes an Earth that no longer wants him for a future that cannot survive without him.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2,” said Chris Rhinehart, project lead. “Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.” More information will be continually leaked to the official Prey 2 Facebook in the coming months and year.

Prey 2 was originally mentioned by 3D Realms’ Scott Miller but it proceeded to drop off the face of the earth for two years and has only now re-surfaced, much to the surprise of many.
