New Wii not coming anytime soon, says Iwata

Wii 2 or a new Wii system will not be coming anytime soon.

This is according to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata himself who spoke to yomiuri.com in Japanese.

According to the interview, he says a Wii successor is not coming anytime soon because of how high the sales have been and still are in America and given that it has already been out for 4+ years.

He says that the next Wii will come when new ideas for Wii 2 start coming from the developers themselves. And that is when they will start pushing for a new system.

I don’t really care since I don’t have a Wii to begin with, but the Wii’s motion detection is clealy inferior to both the Kinect and the PS Move. (I take back the stuff I said about the PS Move pre-launch btw. It’s actually pretty fun). I mean it’s not like Nintendo will ever NOT have a following, but if they want to keep their sales up they are going to have to find a way to make themselves more competitive.

No I’m not Hasty for a Wii successor, maybe Nintendo should wait for 2013.

I have a Wii and a PS3. I don’t think Nintendo needs to release a new console yet. Why should they?? Wii has sold more than PS3 and Xbox360 COMBINED!!! Wii is aimed at the casual gamers, plus those wo crave Mario/ Zelda/ Metroid.

Nobody actually cares that much about graphics, we care about how fun the gameplay is. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are the best games I have ever played. And the visuals are good enough, this is just a videogame, not serious matter!

Wii is so successful that SONY and Microsoft had to copy the motion control idea themselves, after years and years with ridicule. Therefor they made Kinect and PS Move. To get a piece of that motion control pie.

Nintendo always takes chances and think creatively! All those others just copy when they see that the concept was successful. Now with Nintendo 3DS the whole 3D graphic is going to be huge!

I am actually glad to see the long cycles for the new systems. I think it would be way too soon to start talking of a successor, even with the slowed down Wii sales. Although I do think the Wii needs to be the first in line because it is far behind the competition in terms of graphical power and HD content. It even lacks a hard drive.

But for now I’m fine with my Wii. And I play it as much as all the other systems if not more!

However I do agree with Leia, but it remains to be seen if the Kinect and Move will remain successful in the coming months and years.

@8b1007ef623fd88b635be0fe79c577ae:disqus i agree. i have looked at the sales for wii, ps3, and xbox360 and they’re a little off from double, but still more i’m only looking forward to the wii U not a wii 2. i hate how my wii fell from how it stands so i hope wii U sits wii U needs to be a
successor too.
