It’s time to take a look at Sony’s brand new platform-exclusive shooter Killzone 3, one of the first in Sony’s line up to be built with 3D gaming in mind. Oh and not to forget an epic multiplayer game. Let’s take a quick look at the game and then we can get stuck into the review.

Developer: Guerrilla Games
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform: PlayStation 3
Release date: NA February 22, 2011, EU February 23, 2011, UK February, 25 2011
Genre: First-person shooter
Modes: Single-player, online multiplayer, offline split-screen co-op
Ratings: ACB: MA15+, BBFC: 18, ESRB: M, PEGI: 18+

The game picks up immediately after the ending of Killzone 2 and follows the previous games’ main protagonist, Sev, a Special Forces operative fighting for the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance against the Helghast Empire. The game continues shortly after Sev successfully defeated Radec and Rico having killed Visari, the Helghast dictator who leaves them to a fleet of Helghast ships approaching them destroying ISA vessels.

The death of their dictator has left the Helghast Empire in a state of internal struggle. Now, Sev and his comrade Rico are trapped in the cross-fire between the various political factions without any reinforcements and are left to fight alone in order to escape as the ISA struggles to regroup its forces and stop a Helghast invasion of Earth. The game will also give players a deeper look into Helghan culture such as their language and showcase, and also whatever humanity they have left within them.

So that the Killzone 3 plot covered briefly, now to answer all those big questions let’s jump straight into the video review.

So to sum it all up lets look at the individual scores.

Graphics: 9
Smooth as silk and twice as good to look at, okay it may sound like a bad pick up line but that’s about what you get when playing Killzone 3. They have made every inch of this game look so amazing its hard to find somewhere to start, but the big deal with Killzone 3: is the 3D any good? Well, with this being my first 3D gaming experience and not owning a 3D TV myself I made my way round to a good friend who happens to be the proud owner of a monstrous 50 inch Sony 3D TV and lets say WOW, OMG etc etc I was truly blown away although it was slightly odd at first finding my way into cover and the such likes after about 30 mins you settle in and let yourself become completely lost, this is future gaming NOW. there was maybe a slight loss of the sharp edges but I don’t know if this was due to the game or the television but either way it was amazing (I even ducked as RPG’s were fired, it’s that good).

Gameplay: 8
When it comes to FPS shooters there isn’t much to say you shoot and shoot then throw a couple of grenades, but what Killzone 3 does is immerses you in a story that rivals any Hollywood blockbuster, you feel the tension build during the campaign and you want more. Then you start-up a multiplayer game and it begins to rock. With a class based system you can choose from a character role that suits your play style and unlock new weapons and gain bonus points for things like completing objectives, is a great way to spend any afternoon.

Sound: 9
Like its story and its actors Killzone 3 is blockbuster and it doesn’t let you down when it comes to sound either. Get the surround sound on and turn the speakers up people, it’s time to go to war! The voice actors also add considerable depth given each character life and personality that can often be lacking in most shooters.

Over all fun-Factor: 9
Just go get it now, stop reading this review and go to the nearest game store to make sure this is part of your PS3 collection. Even if you haven’t owned any previous titles Killzone 3 can hold its own as a game and was an absolute pleasure to play, and then throw on some 3D glasses and do it all again. The multiplayer is an absolute gem for those of you out there tiring of the same old online warfare, it’s time to freshen things up and get stuck in. I’ll stop writing this review and see you on the battlefield.

Great review.thanks.like i also said on other boards, run run run and go get this game.so far I only killed a couple of helghans because I spent 1 hour at the beginning ,looking at all those crazy things going on at the same time,on the screen. It’s simply amazing.can’t wait for Saturday to play it.
Don’t even bother reading all those reviews where the game only gets a 7/10.It’s pure bullshit coming from Xbox fanboys that don’t know what to say about the marvel killzone3 is, and they cut 3 points because of…the story.they have nothing to say against the game, they invent shit so they can underrate it,just like they do with every ps3 exclusive.
    Once again,please guys don’t miss this game.as a game,do yourself a favor,get it.

@Mike 83 thanks I try to put any bias aside when doing a review and IMO this is better than Halo Reach although alot of the 360 fanboy’s will go down screaming it’s not. The multiplayer is awesome I’ve been spending hours on it. There is the comment that says 6 hours isn’t long enough but tons of good games out there can be completed within 6 hours and still have no extra feaures yet get rave reviews.

Can’t wait to play this. Looks suitably epic!

PS: Rob, now I want one of those fancy 3D TV’s too.
