When you first boot up Marvel vs Capcom 3, you’ll notice that multiple characters are locked. Let’s unlock them!

How to unlock Akuma

Marvel vs Capcom 3 Akuma screenshot

You won’t be able to play with the Akuma character until you earn enough points to unlock him. You’ll unlock Akuma once you have earned 2,000 Player Points, which are also known as PP.

2,000 PP is roughly what you’ll earn for simply playing through the single-player “Arcade Mode” once. Although you can also earn points by playing “Multiplayer”, doing “Character Challenges” or spending time in the “Training Mode”.

To quickly unlock Akuma we recommend you finish the “Arcade Mode” (on any difficulty) with any character…

…Easy difficulty makes it easier to perform better, so you get more PP, as you’ll have more time to build up meters and pull off bigger moves. Less time means you use less fancy moves and thus score lower, so if you’re really good I’m sure you could get about 5,000 PP.
But for most of you who are just getting started with the game, your average result for playing through the “Arcade Mode” once will be:

  • Very Easy difficulty gets you about 3,000 PP in 15 minutes.
  • Easy difficulty gets you about 2,500 PP in 20 minutes.
  • Normal difficulty gets you about 2,000 PP in 30 minutes.
  • Hard difficulty gets you about 2,000 PP in 45 minutes.

    How to unlock Sentinel

You won’t be able to play with the Sentinel character until you earn enough points to unlock him. You’ll unlock Sentinel once you have earned 4,000 Player Points (PP).

4,000 PP is roughly what you’ll earn for playing through the single-player “Arcade Mode” twice. Although you can also earn points by playing “Multiplayer”, doing “Character Challenges” or spending time in the “Training Mode”.

To quickly unlock Sentinel we recommend you finish the “Arcade Mode” twice (on any difficulty) with any character.
You don’t necessarily have to play with the same character both times you beat the game. If you play on Very Easy or Easy difficulty, you’ll unlock him in about 30 to 40 minutes.

    How to unlock Hsien-Ko

Marvel vs Capcom 3 Hsien-Ko screenshot
You won’t be able to play with the Hsien-Ko character until you earn enough points to unlock her. You’ll unlock Hsien-Ko once you have earned 6,000 Player Points (PP).

6,000 PP is roughly what you’ll earn for playing through the single-player “Arcade Mode” three times. Although you can also earn points by playing “Multiplayer”, doing “Character Challenges” or spending time in the “Training Mode”.

To quickly unlock Sentinel we recommend you finish the “Arcade Mode” three times (on any difficulty) with any character.
You don’t necessarily have to play with the same character all three times you beat the game. If you play on Very Easy or Easy difficulty, you’ll unlock her in about 45 to 60 minutes.

    How to unlock Taskmaster

Marvel vs Capcom 3 Taskmaster screenshot
You won’t be able to play with the Taskmaster character until you earn enough points to unlock him. You’ll unlock Taskmaster once you have earned 8,000 Player Points (PP).

8,000 PP is roughly what you’ll earn for playing through the single-player “Arcade Mode” four times. Although you can also earn points by playing “Multiplayer”, doing “Character Challenges” or spending time in the “Training Mode”.

To quickly unlock Taskmaster we recommend you finish the “Arcade Mode” four times (on any difficulty) with any character.
You don’t necessarily have to play with the same character all four times you beat the game. If you play on Very Easy or Easy difficulty, you’ll unlock him in about 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes.
