My favorites include the ending cutscenes for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. I’m not going to post spoilers but the adrenaline pumping music and fantastic CGI make them as epic as epic can be!

Got to admit that my all time fave(s) are definitely Uncharted 2 ending, Nate’s line at the fade…Okay I’ll give you a 5! I say faves cos the other fave is the Jeep scene in Uncharted. Of course I also love the small “in-game” scene in Uncharted 2 “I’m Elena Fisher, last years model” Geez Naughty Dog got this so right! Great choices tho, as the Mafia 2 Deano sing-a-long had me in stitches.

@Jack: Yeah those were really explosive scenes, definitely got my heart racing too. Can’t wait for Mass Effect 3 to finish the Trilogy with a bang.

@DADDII2: The Uncharted games are fantastic. If you like Elena Fisher, check out her voice actress Emily Rose’s new TV show Haven. Not only is it a SyFy seriess based on Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid, but you’ll also see quite a bit of Elena back in the lead she plays.

As for Nate’s voice actor Nolan North, well he’s in every game nowadays LOL, but he voices pretty much the same character in 2008′s Prince of Persia game.

Actually, for my choice, one of my favorite cutscenes is near the end of 2008′s Prince of Persia game where you have spent the entire game fighting towards one goal, only to lose it all. Without giving too much away, that long walk The Prince had at the end was very bittersweet yet powerful.

@Ferry I’m adore Emily Rose and haven’t missed an episode of Haven (also a Stephen King Fan-boy) I only hope that she’s not too busy to voice Elena in Uncharted 3 (geez I hope Elena’s in it!!!) The Prince of Persia franchise is an all time favourite…I literally get goose bumps during the “time is like a river” speech. 1st game I ever thought of as being almost Demille-ish in it’s epic-ness. And let’s not forget Nolan North, man of a thousand voices (in the gaming world) Lord love him! Have you heard his Christopher Walken? Priceless. ;-)

Im amazed, Excelent choices of cutscenes, I wonder, How many games do you play, and wich consoles do you own Meg?

@DADDII2: Awesome another Haven fan. You’re in luck, because alongside Sully, Elena was the third main character to be confirmed for Uncharted 3. She said that in a Haven/career interview actually. :)

Sounds like we’re both big fans of games that bring the movie-esque experience to the palm of your hand. Gotta love games with an epic storyline, I still need to play through Too Human, Heavy Rain, POP: The Forgotten Sands, Red Dead Redemption and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for that reason alone. *stares at gaming backlog pile on desk*

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go find that Walken impression on Youtube!

    @ Marco
Thanks v. much man! I play as many videogames as I have time for these days, which isn’t so much. There is the odd occasion however when I will MAKE the time and ignore life XD
As far as consoles go I don’t have as many as some. I have access to an N64, PSMove and Megadrive (though I don’t own them).
    I myself own a PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox classic, XBOX 360, & Nintendo DS.
    Thanks for the Q’s!
    Meg.

You it’s funny, but my favorite “cut-scenes” aren’t cut-scenes at all in the animated sense. When the Witcher reveals the effects of a choice you made earlier in the game, they have a roughly painted still image that the camera pans over while Geralt talks behind it. I really really enjoyed those.

    @ Photographer Lela
It’s funny I was talking with a friend about different kinds of cutscenes (cinematic, in-game blah blah) and the subject of dialogue within scenes and other things of the same nature came up. I think they are equally as effective as an animated cutscene :)
The Mafia 2: drink driving scene is actually pure gameplay w/the scene going on in the BG via audio. Gotta love the versatility of story telling in video games :D
    Thanks for watching and commenting!

@ Meg – I think one reason the non-animated “cut-scenes” are so effective is because they are the perfect example of less-is-more. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in fancy visuals and animations (which I’m a big fan of – don’t get me wrong) that we sometimes forget that you don’t have to have over the top animation and FX for a scene to be effective. I also love the roughness that these scenes had in the Witcher. It was a very unfinished/gritty look that really paralleled the main character’s story and personality. You often see that quality in concept art, but the rough vibe doesn’t always translate into final animation.
