The Mac App Store is now available for Mac OS X version 10.6.6, allowing those who have a Mac to install the App Store on their PC and download from over 1000 Apps of all types, free and paid.

The categories for Apps and the look of the Mac App Store resemble that of the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad App Store with plenty of different types of Apps to choose from, ranging from LifeStyle Apps (like Dress Assistant), to Photography (like FotoMagico 3), to Productivity (like Mind Node or Evernote), to Social Networking (Twitter, Facebook) to Finance (like iBank) to Education (like iHomework); However, as always, the biggest category has been videogames, where literally hundreds of games from hundreds of different publishers are on offer. The games range from Casual to Hardcore and everything in between.

As you might expect, many of the biggest best sellers for the Mac App Store echo that of the iPhone App Store, with many familiar faces topping the charts.

Here are the best-selling titles that made their debut with the new Mac App Store:

Apple said Friday its newly-launched Mac App Store passed 1 million downloads in its first day of availability, as Rovio’s Angry Birds topped the best-selling paid game charts.

Bestselling Paid Games
1. Angry Birds
2. Chopper 2
3. Pinball HD
4. Flight Control HD
5. The Incident
6. Precipice of Darkness 1

Bestselling Free Games
1. Solitaire Greatest Hits
2. Minesweeper!
3. Poker HD

Games range in price from cheap (Free, 99 Cents) to the cost of a fast-food meal ($7-10) to expensive (Bejeweled 3, #9 on the Bestsellers list, is $20!). The top-grossing debut titles included Angry Birds sitting pretty at #1, followed by Chopper 2, Bejeweled 3 and Pinball HD.

The Mac App Store allows developers to retain 70% of sales revenue (as all IOS developers do). Mac App developers also don’t have to pay hosting, marketing or credit card fees and Apple doesn’t charge them to distribute free Apps either.

It’s worth noting however that if you buy a game on the Mac App Store, you won’t automatically have it for your other IOS platforms (like iPod Touch). And don’t forget that Steam is also available for Mac, with many of the same games available complete with Steam Achievements and the like.
