Nintendo gave me a Christmas present early with Super Mario All-Stars: 25th Anniversary Edition for Wii! Happy I am!

Naturally, I went ahead and recorded some unboxing videos so you guys can see the cool gift I was sent and get a look at this special edition set, which you can purchase for $30 at retail or online.

Here is what the Princess Peach letter included in the package says:

“Hello!

After so many years of writing letters to Mario, I decided it was about time to find some new pen pals! I haven’t baked you a cake or anything, but I did send some very special presents.

The first is Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, where you can relive all the fun Mario and I have had through the years. On top of that, I also thought I’d send you some special paper that should only be used to wrap presents for the biggest Mushroom Kingdom fan on your list.

Cute, eh. Fans of the Mario series will recall that Princess Peach (or “Princess Toadstool”, as she was known back in the 80s and early 90s) sent Mario letters in Super Mario Bros. 3 after you’d defeat each of the Koopalings in the Castles for each world. And in Super Mario 64 Princess Peach baked Mario his first cake… which was really a trap set up by Bowser to capture Mario!

A Celebration Collection
This collectible package features four classic Mario games, a soundtrack CD and an illustrated commemorative booklet. It’s a special collection of some never-before-seen items released in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on the Nintendo Entertainment System and Japanese Famicon.

The games included in the Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition are:

  • Super Mario Bros. 1 : This is the game that started it all. It features now-iconic Mushroom Kingdom characters like Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, Toad, Goombas and Koopas. This game set the standard for all future platforming games.
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels : Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has made only brief cameo appearences in the Western hemisphere. Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 : This time, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad have little more than vegetables to defend themselves with. Each character has a unique set of abilities: Luigi can jump higher and farther, Toad can dig extremely fast and pull items out of the ground quicker, Princess Peach is the only one who can jump and hover temporarily and Mario has the most balanced skills.
