Halo movie still coming says Microsoft

Microsoft has publicly renewed their interest in a Halo movie despite the years of troubled off-and-on development.
The house that Xbox built is so commited to doing the film that they will even push ahead if it comes down to them funding it entirely on their own. To quote Halo franchise development director Frank O’Conner:
“There will be a Halo movie. We don’t need a movie. But we’d like a movie. We’d like the moms of gamers to see the movies because they would love our characters. Maybe we’ll even fund it ourselves.”
“We’d love to see Halo as a television series. Look what HBO did with Band of Brothers or even Rome. Something like that would work because the Halo universe is so vast. – Frank O’Conner, Halo franchise director.
He went on to say this about a possible Halo TV series….
“We’d love to see Halo as a television series. Look what HBO did with Band of Brothers or even Rome,” O’Connor said. “Something like that would work because the Halo universe is so vast.”
Why hasn’t it happened yet? Well as you probably know, everyone from Peter Jackson to Neill Blomkamp had their hands in the project and it almost became a reality, but money, contract and lawyer issues killed it, ultimately.
“When they went behind closed doors with the contracts, things fell apart,” he said. Due to Microsoft wanting to keep all licensing rights, including to toys, cereal or whatever else, something the movie studios themselves opposed; They wanted a piece of the pie “beyond the movie”.
I’m sure many of you will remember 2007′s Halo 3 promos directed by Neill Blomkamp. His short live-action movie with ODST Troopers called Landfall is still incredibly impressive to watch!
O’Conner says that no matter who eventually directs it, Microsoft will not interfere with where they want to take the film.
“If [28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire director] Danny Boyle wants to make a Danny Boyle-style movie, that’s great,” O’Connor said. “Let Danny Boyle be Danny Boyle. We would not constrain a director.”
Do you think a Halo movie will ever get made? Would you be excited to see a Halo movie?
