Angry Birds Movie possible. Stuffed toys coming early 2011

Angry Birds iconic artwork. Movie possibly coming
An Angry Birds movie, along with other merchandise like toys, stuffed animals, comic books and even a possible TV Show, could be coming soon according to a recent report in Variety.

Rovio, the company that owns Angry Birds, has been shopping the franchise over to various media company’s, most interesting being Hollywood movie producers for a possible film based on the hit mobile iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad series of puzzle games.

To quote:

“Rovio, the Finnish creator of the hit iPhone and iPad game, which has sold more than 6.5 million downloads, wants to turn the property into a major franchise that crosses over to other platforms — from TV shows and movies to toys and comicbooks.”

The games are puzzle titles in which a flock of “angry” birds must fend off evil pigs to protect their precious eggs, and apparently Rovio has already been confirmed to be developing toys in the form of stuffed plushies.

This would mark the first time that an iPhone game will have made the transition to other media, and it would be quite a big deal if it successfully makes the transition to a movie property. And why not? Millions of people have enjoyed the games and the cute animals are shoe-ins for the toy and stuffed animal kiddy set and are already recognizable by a huge casual audience. So it really makes a lot of sense for Rovio to persue other possible businesses.

As for the mobile space, the game recently came out with an Angry Birds: Halloween Edition for the App Store, just launched for Palm platforms and will be hitting the Android platform soon.

Here is a trailer for the Halloween Edition.
