Demon’s Souls 2 could happen one day

Demons Souls sequel not out of the question
Demon’s Souls 2 is not entirely out of the cards, so says publisher Sony.

The original Demons Souls was a huge critical and cult hit Japanese RPG for PS3 that came out of no where to be a success (so much so that Sony refused to publish it outside Japan . . . much to their later dismay) and ended up being not only beloved by players but selling surprisingly well for the type of hardcore game it is. It sold better than Persona 4, becoming the best-selling Atlus game ever in North America, and the first to be re-released under the Greatest Hits line.

This intense fan love and outpouring of support for the game that is the soul (pardon the pun) reason that Demons Souls COULD, could, eventually…. Get a sequel. A true sequel, albeit possibly from another developer. Keep in mind this is different than From Software’s Project Dark follow-up, which is their next title but unrelated to Demons Souls.

To quote Takeshi Kajii from Sony Japan Studios in an interview with Guardian Games Blog:

“At the moment, my answer is ‘no sequel!’ to Demons Souls,” Kajii cautioned. “However, we have been encouraged by all the players, and this title is so well supported, and besides we like this title so much… Well, this is my own feeling, but I think one day we could bring you another Demon’s Souls…”

Sadly From Software themselves has stayed quite on the manner. Hidetaka Miyazaki, producer on the original Demons Souls at From Software, deferred to Kajii when asked if they’d be involved in a sequel.

Hopefully this series will continue though and the stars will align for From Software to get involved. I think this is one of the few really unique games that fans have embraced in a huge way that is deserving of a true sequel by the same developer.

Here is a trailer for Demons Souls.
