Champions Online goes free to play in 2011
Champions Online will go free-to-play starting in the first quarter of 2011 announced Cryptic Studios.

And this is only the latest online MMO in a long string to go that route.

However if you don’t subscribe to the superhero MMO and stick with the free version, you won’t be able to access a large portion of the game’s content and will have lowered amounts of inventory space, bank and marketplace space and the like. You also won’t be able to assign character powers.

That’s quite the list of drawbacks that equals a pretty gimped version for going the free-to-play route, but it will still allow potential players to test the waters, level up their characters up to the cap and purchase supplemental items.

Subscriptions will still cost $15 and Lifetime members will be automatically enrolled into the subscription tier once this free-to-play option goes into effect. You can learn more at the official Champions Online web-site.

Here is a trailer for the The Serpent Lantern Adventure Pack for Champions Online.
