Pokemon Black and White has best Japanese launch in gaming history. Shatters records with 2.6 million sold in two days!

Just a fad, eh? Pokemon Black & White has sold an astounding 2.6 million copies in only two days after the game’s launched in Japan! Believe it or not, this is the BIGGEST GAMING LAUNCH EVER in the history of Japan. And that is saying something!

Pokemon Black and White shattered the previous record, which was held by the PS1 launch of Final Fantasy VIII, with the recent Dragon Quest IX being pushed back to third place.

It looks like the popularity, sales and increasing love of Pokefans is only getting STRONGER as the years pass by. Remember when critics and fans alike thought Pokemon was just another fad? Keep in mind that we are now entering the 14th (soon to be 15th!) year since Pokemon debuted in 1996 in Japan! “Pokemon Forever” indeed!

I wonder what the sales of Pokemon Black & White will be when they launch in the West? The games won’t hit overseas until next Spring 2011.

So how much exactly is 2.6 million copies in two days as far Pokemon is concerned? Well, to put that number into perspective, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver took ONE YEAR to sell over 3 million copies . . . it certainly looks like Pokemon Black & White will reach that number at a much quicker pace!

Additionally, first-week sales of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl were “only” 1.5 million . . . Thus Pokemon Black & White have shattered sales records as far as Pokemon is concerned, becoming the best-selling launch in the history of the series (naturally). Insanity.
