Metroid: Other M 2 only possible with Tecmo’s Team Ninja, says Nintendo

Super Metroid HD fanmade screenshot. I'd like to see something like this
Metroid: Other M 2 is a distinct possibility, says Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto, but it wouldn’t be possible without Nintendo collaborating once again with Team Ninja, the developer behind Metroid: Other M.

Then again, who knows what the next Metroid game might look like. Whether it WILL be anything like Metroid: Other M remains to be seen. Considering that Nintendo also had Retro Studios (who is now working on Donkey Kong Country Returns) create the drastically different Prime series (as you can read about in my Metroid Prime Trilogy review), anything is possible.

To quote:

“If we are going to decide the next Metroid is going to be a linear extension of Other M, then Team Ninja comes first to my mind as the partner to collaborate with.” – Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto

“I’m very grateful for the collaboration with Team Ninja coming up with Metroid: Other M,” Sakamoto told CVG. “As far as my opinion is concerned if we are going to make something similar to Metroid Other M in the future I cannot think that it would be possible for Nintendo to make it without collaborating with Team Ninja. If we are going to decide the next Metroid is going to be a linear extension of Other M then Team Ninja comes first in my mind as the partner for us to collaborate with. But if I’m going to decide that it’s going to be a different story for the next Metroid adventure then depending on the skills, know-how and technology that might require, Team Ninja might not be the choice for us to collaborate with.”

Very, VERY interesting. So the question remains, would you rather have a direct-sequel to Metroid: Other M, or would you rather see Nintendo once again throw a curveball and take the series into a third new direction?

Personally, I’d be interested in seeing a LITERAL 2D side-scrolling Wii version of the series with animated graphics much in the style of something like the PS2′s Odin Sphere or Yoshi’s Island, but applied to a new Metroid. Make it COMPLETE 2D and using the Wii’s processing power.

Heck, even re-releasing Super Metroid like in the screenshot above would be AMAZING. I did love Metroid: Other M though, so a sequel would also be very welcome.

I would love to see a continuation of other m. I think that team ninja did a great job of mixing good gameplay with excelent stoytelling. The game was well done and was very polished. I love the facted that a nintendo character had a voice, none of those grunts and 1 liners. Such a good game, please make more! I love a good game and a good story. Nintendo could learn from this.

I have always loved metroid , hence My nick name from the first time I have played the game.Thank you also for the well presented Video walk through. Comments good and not so good.Retro Studio’s Did a brilliant job with Metroid Sound’s,Hidden Items, powerup’s and upgrades keeping to the triditional format that Nintendo had set out for Game Boy, Supernes ,Nintendo 64 and etc. Unlike Nintendo Retro created the game mostly in first person perspective which I found in most part not so enjoyerble from the origional game that now being said,Team Ninja brought back tpo life the origional Format as created by Nintendo (3rd person perpective)with The Other M.However althought the Game play third person view and swop to first person View was a brilliant Addition to Retro’s creation I felt it lacked the suspence of discovery , the music and the back ground sound’s that I have become so used to,The story format was very good, though a little confused to the history of Samus whom I had always believed was discovered and raised by the Chozo Cililization, hence the power suit etc adption to her self.In Any Case, I wolud love to see the next version of Metroid or Mother M2 with the best of both from Retro’s development of the Game with Team Ninja Married to give the best of Both prospective to reflect in the new Game. That would really be Ideal and Awesom indeed.

I disagree, I feel that the game poorly portrayed Samus’s personality and character. She whines like a emo-teenager, freeks when she fights you know who even though up to this point she has literally killed him 4 times. Each time with out flintching and the crappy voice actor reads her lines monotone and with poor execution. On top of all this there are some unforgivable offenses, such as the item pick up tune is gone replaced by some lame dadada, LAME. Samus is now barely 5′ high even though all true Metroid lovers know she is 6’3″ without the suit on, without highheels which I am really pissed at, that or every galactic soidlier is 7′ or taller. In addition to all this Samus takes orders not to use dangerous weapons cool I get that, but come on not turning on the best suits in the game at the beginning is just plan stupid story telling. Furthermore, WTF is up with the Gravity Suit I mean come on no one in their right mind invisions the GS as some lame glowing aura and no it does not count as being artistic. Perhaps the most blasphemous thing of all (SPOILER)!!!!!!!!
is simply that Samus at almost full power was taken out by some lame, weak, small and low powered I beam shot from Adam. I can take Adam being completely stupid in sacraficing himself, instead of using several better methods of destroying the metroid section of the station but not the way Samus went down. I can never forgive that. Last but not least is this the entire game is just a ripe off of Metroid 4, there was almost no creativity, the exploration well there was none. To be truely honest I feel they were on to something in the close up 2nd person mode but then the just ditched it and left it IN!?!? However, the halfassness doesn’t end there it continues with the partial 1st person mode which can at times be frustrating, the should have had the nunchuck involved but for some reason they didn’t.

Oh one last thing, let the number speak for themselves, metroid sold way below expectations especially in the USA.
