Price drops for DSi and Nintendo DSi XL will start next month announced Nintendo of America.

The extremely popular handhelds will see a price-lowering of $20 just in time for the holiday season and coinciding with the release of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future which releases on September 30, 2010.

The Nintendo DSi will be lowered to $150 from it’s previous price of $170.

While the Nintendo DSi XL will be lowered to $170 from it’s previous price of $190.

Meanwhile, the outdated Nintendo DS Lite hardware (which plays Game Boy Advance games) will retain its long-standing pricing point of $130. A price the evergreen system has kept since June of 2006.

These announcements come on the heels of the anticipated September 29th announcement of the price and launch date of Nintendo’s upcoming handheld successor system, the 3DS. So this is likely Nintendo’s final attempt to move more hardware ahead of the new system.
