Sony compares PlayStation Move sales expectations to EyeToy

Sony is not expecting the PlayStation Move to sell like hotcakes upon the motion controller’s release on September 19th.
Instead, the company is downplaying the sales factor and comparing the Move to the PlayStation 2′s EyeToy camera.
To quote:
“Exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it’s [The PlayStation Move] a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.
“Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn’t with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful. As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That’s what I expect from Move as well.”
So Sony is banking on people getting ahold of Move from their friends or relatives, liking it, and telling their friends, who in turn pick it up as well.
How well do you think Move will perform? Do you think it will become popular by word of mouth?
I should note that Ferry was a big fan of the EyeToy, as you can see in his Eye Toy Kinetic review, EyeToy Kinetic: Combat review, EyeToy Play review, EyeToy Play 2 review and EyeToy Play 3 review. Phew!
Here’s the PlayStation Move demonstration from E3 2010 of the funnest looking Move game in my eyes, Sorcery.
