Brutal Legend 2 unlikely as developer Double Fine works on four other games for multiple publishers

Sadly, it looks like Brutal Legend 2 will not be coming anytime soon, this according to creator Tim Schafer himself during a keynote speech given at the Developer Conference.

However, as a result of that very fact, Tim Schafer revealed that his studio, Brutal Legend-developer Double Fine Productions, had to accelerate production on some prototype ideas for various games they had in mind.

And now these titles have already been signed to deals by various publishers and apparently ALL FOUR of them are currently in the works.

To quote Giant Bomb:
“Tim Schafer, game designer of Monkey Island fame and now his own boss at Double Fine Productions, has left his mark on the Brighton-based Develop conference, revealing in his keynote some surprising news about what it is Double Fine is up to these days.

Brutal Legend 2 wasn’t greenlit by the game’s original publisher, Shafer said during his speech, and as a result, the studio had to gear up quickly and hit the road with its existing prototypes. Four of them, to be precise. Fascinatingly, all four of these “best of” pet projects have been signed by multiple publishers and are now set to become real games.”

So that makes me wonder, is there any chance we could be seeing a Brutal Legend 2 by a DIFFERENT publisher outside of EA? I wonder if Double Fine retained the rights or if they are held by EA.

Either way, I think there would be a ton of interest in a sequel, particularly if the wait for one is quite long and Tim gets these other games done first. Then goes back to Brutal Legend 2 and solves all the issues people had with that game. Here’s to hoping!
