New Insomniac Games title coming to Xbox 360. Studio breaks PS3 exclusivity!

The Ratchet & Clank guys are coming to Xbox 360! No not the actual game characters themselves, but the company that made them, known as Insomniac Games. Who have announced that their newest project will be released for Xbox 360, as well as for PS3.
This marks the first time that the developers have created a game title for someone OTHER than Sony, finally breaking their Sony-exclusivity after 15 years. Other games Insomniac is known for outside the Ratchet & Clank franchise include the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy for PS1 and the Resistance series on PS3.
Electronic Arts will be publishing their still unannounced game via EA Partners. The new game will be set in an all-new universe, but WILL NOT be unveiled at E3 2010 in June. Which must mean it is still a ways off. Under the agreement between EA and Insomniac, Insomniac Games will retain ownership rights of the intellectual property.
“There have been a lot of great reasons to make games for the Playstation,” said Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games. “We have a wonderful relationship with Sony and will continue to work with them on Playstation titles.”
He went on to say that while their games have reached a ton of people on the Sony systems, it has been a while since their games have seen a big spike in sales. He is hoping that being able to reach a broader audience by tapping Xbox 360 owners will help in reaching more people and having higher sales.
“We never wanted to limit ourselves,” Price said. “People are inspired here by having the opportunity to try new things. Resistance was a chance to branch out and we will continue to look for those opportunities.”
So what will their new title be like? No one really knows, at this point it could be anything. I do hope it is a more mature title. One thing they are saying is that it will be set from the start as a series.
“We’ve never approached any of the games we make as one-offs,” Price said. “Our goal is to create a franchise.”
Here is Ted Price himself with the announcement.
