Mass Effect Movie coming to planet Earth

A Mass Effect movie is officially coming as Legendary Pictures has scooped up the rights to develop the upcoming feature film based on the hit BioWare RPG series.
Writing the script for the movie will be Mark Protosevich who is well known for writing I Am Legend and is working on the upcoming Thor film adaptation for Marvel. He’s also adapting Stranger in a Strange Land (remake) and The Bride of Frankenstein, both still in production.
While Legendary Pictures has some huge films, including both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, 300, Watchmen, Superman Returns, Where the Wild Things Are, Clash of the Titans 2010 and others.
In addition, producing the film will be Avi and Ari Arad (whose production company is currently creating the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune feature film), Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni and BioWare’s co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk who will executive-produce along with Casey Hudson (exec. producer of both games).
Will the game be set on Earth? It is plausable since most alien movies of this type (humans vs aliens) are set on Earth because it is much cheaper to film than undertaking a massive-scope project of the size of Mass Effect’s universe. Not to mention it makes it more relatable to audiences (or so they say).
Here is what some of the people involved have said about Mass Effect:
Casey Hudson – “I always thought ‘Mass Effect’ was perfectly suited to be a motion picture.”
Pat O’Brien of EA – Has said they saw cross-over potential for Mass Effect to be made into a film early on by EA Entertainment. Whose goal is to find new ways and mediums to expand EA games into new territories.
Tull – Said Mass Effect is “ripe for translation. It has depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story.”
Arad – Described the game as “a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world. This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together.”
