Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions has been announced by Activision as the newest entry in the long-running Spider-Man videogame series. Like the last game, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions is not directly based on a film or cartoon property.

Rather, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is set within four distinct “dimensions” that are all based off of existing Spider-Man comic series! Each of these dimensional worlds will present the player with a new re-interpretation of the Spider-Man mythos, and will contain not only new graphical styles but also new enemies and elements for each world.

Entirely new to the series are what looks to be not only first-person combat, but first-person web-slinging! We’ll know more when the game is fully revealed later on.

Only two of the four dimensions have been announced. They are . . .

The Amazing Dimension – The Amazing dimension represents the original version of Spider-Man, set in modern day and based on “The Amazing Spider-Man” comic series. The Amazing dimension features a saturated comic-book graphic style and web-based combat.

The Noir Dimension – The Noir dimension represents the version of Spider-Man seen in the Spider-Man: Noir comics. This version of Spider-Man is set in the 1930s with mob and gangster themes, as you’d expect. The graphical style is dark and desaturated, with the outlines of characters carrying a sheen that makes them visible in low light situations. Combat is a little more violent and stealth-based in the Noir dimension.

Here is the reveal trailer for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS. In it you see a ton of different gameplay abilities and styles, in an action-packed gameplay video. You’ll also spot two villains: Kraven the Hunter and Hammerhead.

Could this game do for Spider-Man what Arkham Asylum did for Batman? Looks that good in my humble opinion.
