Linux PS3 no longer supported due to firmware 3.21 update
Sony is completely pulling the plug on Linux support as of April 1, 2010, when they will be releasing a mandatory firmware update (version 3.21) that will cut off Linux support for all PS3′s that download it.

You may remember that Sony originally trumped up the fact that the PS3 supported “other Operating Systems”, and now things have apparently come full circle.

Those who do NOT update their PS3′s on April 1st and thus opt-out, will forfeit their license to use the PlayStation Network. In addition, not downloading the update also won’t allow you to play games online, use the online features of games, play newer Blu-ray discs or play copyright-protected videos from media servers; effectively crippling your PS3. In other words, Sony is essentially forcing those who do have Linux on their PS3 to stop using it.

So what is the reasoning behind all this? According to Sony it is due to “security concerns”, although they wouldn’t name specifics. This comes nearly two months however after American hacker George Hotz (who famously hacked the iPhone) announced that he had hacked the PS3s OS as well.

Either way, the days were numbered for Linux support ever since Sony released their slimeline PS3′s, which did not support “other Operating Systems”.

If you just to know how to install Linux on the PS3 or why someone would do so, check out the following videos.

Note that you probably will want to do more heavy research on installing Linux on the PS3 if you are thinking of doing so.
