Major Nelson’s Xbox Live account hacked

Larry Hryb aka Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, has had his account hacked confirmed Microsoft.
Larry is Microsoft’s Xbox Live Director of Programming and has been the face of their online platform for quite some time.
However his account was hacked and his GamerTag defaced over the weekend.
And in an incredibly stupid move for the culprit, they documented the attack in video form, which apparently shows many screen names that they use for IMing and the like. Even if their face isn’t shown, that’s probably enough evidence right there for the police to track them down. The video has since been removed from youtube.
In the video, the hacker says that he was able to gain full access to Hyrb’s online information, including personal details, his current amount of Microsoft points and access to his Friends List, among other details. The hacker was even so bold as to tell others that he’ll hack accounts for anyone who pays him $60 bucks.
Microsoft is currently investigating the manner, adding,
“Looks like this was very specific and very targeted to Major,” says Xbox Live director of policy and enforcement Stephen Toulouse.
Well whoever it is better be prepared for some BIG consequences. You don’t just hack into Microsoft-anything unless you have a death wish. But personally this is somewhat distressing, because if even Microsoft’s own top guys aren’t safe, that definitely means we aren’t either.
