Solarobo announced for DS in Japan. Similar to CyberConnect2′s PS1 game Tail Concerto

Solarobo is the name of a new DS Action RPG that is similar to the cult favorite Tail Concerto
It is being developed by CyberConnect2 (of the .Hack series and Naruto games) and is their first DS title. It will be released in Japan at the end of the year by Namco Bandai, and has yet to be announced for release outside Japan.
The game is purposefully meant to raise nostalgic feelings in fans of Tail Concerto, released for the PS1 in 1998 and the studio’s first title.
“I’m not joking when I say that this game’s been in conception for 10 years and in development for three,” CC2 head Hiroshi Matsuyama told Famitsu magazine this week. “Crazy, isn’t it? Three years for a Nintendo DS game! I’m impressed Namco Bandai waited that long for us.”
Solarobo is a “robot-action” game set in a world composed of floating islands where the races (which resemble cats and dogs) have linked up to create an advanced civilization (it features animated cutscenes by Madhouse).
In the game you play as Red Savarin, a bounty hunting dog (literally. And no, this has nothing to Dog The Bounty Hunter) who is joined by his sister Chocolat (no I’m not making this up) and his own “cool-looking personal robot” mech called DAHAK-AZI03 that he rides. Together the trio take on jobs to hunt bounties.
Like Tail Concerto, Solarobo is a 3D action game where Red spends most of his time on his mech attacking enemies. “You fight battles while piloting your robot, but the DAHAK doesn’t have any weapons,” Matsuyama commented. “You use it to pick up big things and throw them, or grab enemy missiles out of the air and throw them back, and so on. You can also pick up and throw the enemies themselves and damage them that way. It’s easier to do this if you can get behind their back and mash the DS buttons, but it’s a difficult task from the front.”
Key features of “Solarobo – Sore kara coda he” include:
* 1 to 4 players over wifi.
* Wireless play.
* Robot has the ability to lift crates.
* Game features ideas that are expanded upon the original Tail Concerto.
* Action parts with the robot included.
* Town maps in the game employ side-scrolling movement using 3D backgrounds.
* Cutscenes use “Motion Illustation Demo” with fill both DS screens, and are 3D.
* Full 3D dungeons.

* Growth for robot and main character.
