Monkey Island 2 Special Edition remake announced. First game’s SE coming to PSN

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, a remake of the second game in the Monkey Island series, has been announced by LucasArts! The game will follow in the footsteps of last year’s Xbox Live Arcade & PC release, “The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition“, which revived the age-old adventure game series (and was followed up by the all original episodic “Tales of Monkey Island” series).
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC, iPhone and iPod Touch this Summer. Once again players will assume the role of the wannabe-pirate Guybrush Threepwood in the sequel, who must use his wits to solve puzzles in order to find the legendary treasure of Big Whoop. The game was originally released way back in 1991 for PC.
Naturally, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition (heretofor “SE”) will include new features, like all-new high-definition graphics, a remastered soundtrack, and a three-tiered hint system. The hint system from the first Monkey Island SE has been expanded and can be used to highlight important objects in the environment. In addition, LeChuck’s Revenge will allow players to directly control Guybrush with the Control Stick if they choose, instead of relying on the traditional point-and-click formula to navigate.
Other features from the first SE, such as the ability to switch to the classic graphics from the 1991 release on-the-fly and in-game audio commentary from the game’s developers as you play through it, will be included in Monkey Island 2: SE Voice acting will also be included in both modes, and is from the same cast as in the first SE. There will also be a concept art gallery for fans to peruse.
And in other news, the original The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition is coming to PlayStation Network for you PS3 gamers, along with some new Monkey Island themed Home outfits for your Home Avatars. There will also be a Pirate Ship-themed Home Environment to explore. The PS3 version will be released in the next few weeks.
