Ghost Recon: Future Soldier movie announced as short film prequel to game

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier movie (short film) announced
A Ghost Recon: Future Soldier movie is being made announced Ubisoft.

Instead of a full-length film, Ubisoft is continuing it’s tradition of releasing short films based on its games, just like they did with the Assassin’s Creed: Lineage live-action short films before the release of Assassin’s Creed 2.

Being tapped to work on the new live-action short film based on the upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, are directors Francois Alaux and Herve de Crecy, who are known for their work with Logorama, an animated short film that won an Academy Award in the Short Film category.

The film will be around twenty minutes long and will cost between $8 and $10 million dollars to produce. Tim Sexton, known for his work on Children of Men, will be writing the script, and it will be based on the US Special Forces team featured in the upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier game (Due for release this holiday 2010).

This new announcement shows that Ubisoft is continuing to push itself in the film category, after producing the Assassin’s Creed Lineage short films and buying out Montreal-based Hybride Technologies, who worked on the movie “300”, to tap for creating said short films.

Then of course, there’s this summer’s epic videogame film, the Disney-produced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based on Ubisoft’s hit POP franchise and 2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time game in particular. It’ll be interesting to see what else they have in the pipeline for the movie segment of their business.
