Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front released exclusively on iPhone and iPod Touch
Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front is out now exclusively on iTunes and iPod Touch at a price of $8 thanks to publisher Gameloft.
This game is the follow-up to the original iPhone version of Brothers in Arms which was released in November of last year, and at the time was one of the most complex 3D games yet released for Apple’s portable. It received high praise although was criticized for it’s difficult to use control system.
The sequel builds on the successes of the first game while completely redesigning the title from the ground up specifically for iPhone. Thus this new title is three times the filesize of the first game and offers a much bigger experience, in every regard, overall.
Instead of being a third-person shooter, the game is first-person, although it includes a third-person duck-and-cover mechanic for when you are hiding behind objects as cover from gunfire. The game includes all manner of wartime weapons to use as well, including turrets, jeeps and tanks; you can even pilot a glider over the battlefield.
Storywise you play as a young American soldier named David Wilson who is part of the WWII effort and must help to fight against the Nazis and Japanese in order to save his comrades during the heat of battle. However when he learns that his brother Eric has been killed, and that his Medal of Honor was mysteriously revoked, he makes it his personal mission to uncover the truth.
All of the weapons that you expect are here including some massive damage types such as flamethrowers and bazookas, in addition to your grenades and machine guns.
There are three modes of play in all and campaign takes you through 13 levels set in five different locations. These include the Pacific, Sicily, Normandy, Germany, and North Africa. Network play is also supported via WiFi or Bluetooth. The game even features a Trophy system via the Gameloft LIVE network.
Brothers in Arms 2 may also get campaign co-op play for two players after release, although previously Gameloft has failed to deliver on similar promises, so time will tell if it happens.
