God Eater, a Monster Hunter-style action adventure game, has been picked up for American release thanks to D3Publisher, who will bring the title Stateside in the third quarter of this year.

The game only launched recently in Japan, but was a nice success, outselling Square Enix’s Dragon Quest VI DS remake by 3 to 2 and selling nearly 300,000 copies in it’s first week on shelves.

In God Eater, the Earth has been brought to ruin thanks to the rampant chaos of creatures divine creatures called “Aragami”. Up to four players can team up with their friends to defeat the giant supernatural beasts with their customizable characters using special multipurpose weapons known as Jinki.

The game allows you to hunt solo or with a team of real players or use AI controlled teammates. Solo players have additional multiplayer options as well, even being able to use the AdhocParty feature to play the game in local co-op mode online via the PS3.
