Street Fighter 4 iPhone screenshot. The console best-seller hits Apple's powerhouse
Street Fighter 4 iPhone is coming this March confirmed Capcom.

So how does a hardcore, high-definition fighting game like SFIV get ported to a system that has no buttons?

Capcom has taken much care in this port to built a version of Street Fighter IV that would do the portable Apple powerhouse justice. The result is a surprisingly faithful reproduction of the console (and PC) hit.

As you’d expect, Capcom has gone with a virtual stick and virtual buttons that simulate an arcade stick on the portable’s touchscreen. Additionally, the game has a fantastic art style that comes pretty close to faithfully capturing the unique look of its bigger brothers. Capcom has done this by literally taking the same physical assets straight from the console game’s coding! So while the graphics don’t exactly touch those of the original version (pun not intended), they come mighty close on the crisp handheld screen.

So the second biggest question comes in what will be LOST in the transition? Right now Capcom is not willing to confirm what characters are in the game other than Ryu and Ken, but it seems safe to say that the entire roster probably will not make it . . . of course, given that this is the current generation we are in, the roster can always be expanded on with future downloadable content. *happy face*

Capcom has confirmed that all of the characters that ARE included will have their entire movesets including their Ultras. And the animations for said Ultras have NOT been cut. Not too shabby. Also included will be a training Dojo Mode, Tournament Mode and Multiplayer Match play. Multiplayer in Street Fighter 4 on iPhone will allow users to battle over Bluetooth.

Control-wise, players will have a variety of different set-ups and configurations that they can change to suit their own needs. And the default control-scheme works surprisingly well to mimic an arcade stick and buttons on the small screen.

Looks like Capcom has really put some effort into this one. If this goes over well, expect a ton of other fighters to follow for Apple’s machine.
