Bayonetta 2 teased on official Platinum Games website

Bayonetta 2 (artwork) may be announced soon. Hell yeah!
Bayonetta 2, a sequel to Platinum Games most recent successful “Infinite Climax Action Game”, may be the next title revealed by the developer who is now teasing an unannounced next project on the official Platinum Games web-site via a countdown timer.

Although this is speculation and we can only guess at what the next project from the legendary game designers at Platinum will be, it is an educated guess that wouldn’t be surprising in the least.

Of course this is also the team that brought us everything from Okami to Resident Evil 2 to Devil May Cry to God Hand to the upcoming DS RPG Infinite Space, so it really could be anything.

However with Bayonetta being a critical success immediately after launching, it makes the sequel much more likely, as the developers are clearly still very excited about the game. Something this interview shows:

Update January 22: The game’s designer, Hideki Kamiya, confirmed to Game Informer magazine that: “We obviously have love for the work we have created, so I don’t see anything wrong with Bayonetta 2. Personally, I’d like to approach the world of Bayonetta from a different angle, in the form of a spin-off.”

Update August 2: The Bayonetta sequel teasing continues on Twitter, where Bayonetta director Yusuke Hashimoto has said: “Good morning. It looks like we’ll be able to share new information related to Bayonetta this week. Look forward to it.”

Update October 4: Platinum Games co-founder Atsushi Inaba said in an interview that he’d love to make a second title in the Bayonetta series. To quote: “There is no concrete plan or schedule that we can talk about. It’s not like [creator Hideki] Kamiya said, ‘OK, we’re going to make this.’ But Bayonetta is definitely a special IP for us. We loved creating that game. We think it was a really good game. We would love to make a sequel to it when the time is right.”

Update May 1, 2012: The latest rumors from Platinum Games suggest the company’s restructuring has resulted in the cancellation of Bayonetta 2. The game was supposedly only in the pre-production design stages, with a new character from the U.S. military starring.
