Sega and Capcom will “probably” stop making Mature Wii games

Money talks, and thus Capcom and Sega may be at the end of their rope when it comes to releasing mature games for grown ups on the Wii.
And the simple reason for this is due to low sales of recent mature games from both companies. From Capcom you had Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and according to a Capcom of Europe interview, the game only sold 16,000 copies in France as opposed to 140,000 for Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (the light-gun shooter before it).
While this doesn’t reflect worldwide sales, it may point to low sales overall. Couple this with the failure of Spyborgs, and Capcom has tried their hand at strong Wii titles without success. Although they should’ve put more support into marketing. But either way, Capcom has now gone on record saying that they think family-friendly titles are the way to go for Wii in the future, and will be putting a greater focus on Xbox 360 and PS3 as a result. For shame!
Likewise, Sega made a mad Wii push with some quality titles, including the Mature-rated Madworld and The House of the Dead: Overkill. They also released the FPS The Conduit. Like with Capcom, none of the titles saw breakout success in sales numbers, and now Sega is re-thinking their “serious game” support for the Wii.
Speaking on the 4 Guys UP podcast, Sega of America studio director Constantine Hantzopoulos said, “That begets the question, you know, are we gonna do more mature titles for the Wii and it’s like … probably not.”
He also pointed to the failure of Dead Space: Extraction, another Mature-rated Wii game with poor sales . . .
Sadly, I think if Konami doesn’t see huge success with Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, then we might as well just say goodbye to Mature Wii games. Which is very sad indeed.
