Gears of War 2 COG tag locations (collectibles guide)

What are the cog tag locations in Gears of War 2? Below you will find a guide in both video and text form that will give you the location for every hidden and secret COG tag in the game, as well as the rest of the collectibles including journals, newspapers, reports and the like.
This guide video shows you where every collectible in the game is located.
The walkthrough above will help you earn these three Achievements:
Collector – Recover 5 collectibles (any difficulty) – Worth 5 GamerPoints
Pack Rat – Recover 20 collectibles (any difficulty) – Worth 15 GamerPoints
Completionist – Recover all 41 collectibles (any difficulty) – Worth 30 GamerPoints
The collectibles can be obtained in any order on any difficulty level. Even if you don’t find them all on your first playthrough, the ones you didn’t get will still appear if you play the game again. Even if your second playthrough is via co-op, off or online or is done on a different difficulty setting. You can also just load up that chapter where you missed one and complete the collection that way.
COG TAG LOCATIONS/COLLECTIBLES WALKTHROUGH GUIDE (TEXT)
Although you only have to watch the video above to find all of the collectibles, sometimes a text guide can be more useful. Below is a text walkthrough showing you the location of every COG Tag and collectible in the game, from the first chapter to the final chapter.
ACT 1 – TIP OF THE SPEAR
Chapter 1: Welcome to Delta (Collectibles numbered 1 and 2 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #1: Eagle Newspaper
Only found by selecting Training when starting the game. After it starts, go down the alley and you’ll find a newspaper called The Eagle on the floor in the middle of the street. This is collectible number 1.
Collectible #2: Ambulance Driver’s Log
At the end of the Training section, you’ll go down a ladder. Once at the bottom of the ladder, head right. You’ll see a garage. Go inside and you’ll find the second collectible, an “Ambulance Driver’s Log”.
Chapter 2: Desperation (Collectibles numbered 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #3: Doctor’s Journal
After you defeat the locusts in the hospital (your first encounter with them), you’ll find yourself in a room that overlooks the floor below. From the start, move to the left of the room and into a small adjacent room. Inside you’ll find the third collectible, the Doctor’s Journal.
Collectible #4: Jacinto Medical Center File
Located only a few rooms ahead of collectible #3, you’ll find #4. It is hidden in a reception desk in the center of a room. You’ll find it on the floor inside. This file, the Jacinto Medical Center File, is collectible number 4.
Collectible #5: COG Letterhead
Collecting the fifth collectible will give you the “Collector” Achievement (worth 5 GamerPoints) for collecting five collectibles. This fifth one is hidden beside the Cafeteria, located in a small room that contains a desk and with a PC. Look around the room to find the COG Letterhead, collectible number 5.
Collectible #6: COG Proclamation
You’ll find this collectible on the second floor in the lobby of the hospital. It will be near some ammo right when you enter the room. Called the COG Proclamation, this is collectible number 6.
Collectible #7: COG Tags: Private Dylan Murphy
To find this collectible, you’ll want to turn to the right as soon as you exit the hospital. The COG Tag will be located on the floor behind a pillar. The Private Dylan Murphy COG Tags are collectible number 7.
Chapter 3: Rolling Thunder (Collectibles numbered 8 and 9 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #8: Grindlift Notice
Collectible number 8 is very easy to find. As soon as you start the chapter, you’ll find the Grindlift Notice on the wall behind you.
Collectible #9: Munitions Requisition Form
You’ll find this collectible next to the rig, to the left, after you get off it when you are needed to protect Dizzy. To the left of the rig you’ll find some bushes and ammo, you’ll also find collectible number 9, the Munitions Requisition Form.
Chapter 4: The Big Push
You can rest easy and take a break from all the furious collecting. As this chapter is completely devoid of collectibles. Onto Chapter 5!
Chapter 5: Roadblocks (Collectibles numbered 10, 11, 12, and 13 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #10: Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper
You’ll find collectible number 10 located within the first building that you enter. Go up the stairs. You’ll find a copy of the Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper near some grenades.
Collectible #11: Memorial Inscription
After the battle with the Ticker enemies, you’ll find collectible number 11 as an inscription on the War Memorial. To get there, you will have to chainsaw your way through some debre, and you’ll find this collectible before you fight the Nemacysts. The Memorial Inscription is collectible number 11.
After getting rid of the Tickers, check the wall of the war memorial to find the Memorial Inscription. This is after you chainsaw through some debris, and before the Nemacysts.
Collectible #12: Landown Delivery Driver’s Note
Collectible number 12 is found at the back of the Imulsion Station on the floor in the back room. Go to it after Cole and the Centaur defeat the left Troika. Now enter the Imulsion Station and you’ll find it on the floor in the back room. This is the twelth collectible, called the Landown Delivery Driver’s Note.
Collectible #13: COG Tags: Private Samuel Lee
Collectible number 13 are COG Tags, you’ll find these directly before the stairs to the left of the wrecked cars that obstruct your path. In the room by the stairs you’ll find the COG Tags of Private Samuel Lee, the thirteenth collectible.
Chapter 6: Digging In
You can go ahead and take another break! No collectibles are hidden in this chapter.
ACT 2 – DENIZENS
Chapter 1: Scattered
Keep resting up! There are no collectibles in this chapter.
Chapter 2: Indigenous Creatures (Collectibles numbered 14 and 15 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #14: Gear Journal
Collectible number 14 is a Gear Journal, you’ll find it to the left, through some vines, of the Rockworm. In it’s vicinity is also some ammo, a Grindlift, and this journal.
Collectible #15: Kantus Scroll
Collectible number 15 is a Kantus Scroll, which you will find behind the Troika at the back of the platform where you fight a couple Troikas and a Reaver.
Chapter 3: Disturbing Revelations (Collectible number 16 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible #16: Locust Emblem
After your first fight with the Kantus, Drone and Wretches, you’ll make your way through some doors. There you’ll find collectible number 16, a Locust Emblem, which is near some ammo.
Chapter 4: Sinking Feeling (Collectibles numbered 17 and 18 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #17: Ilima Help Wanted Ad
You’ll find collectible number 17, an Ilima help Wanted Ad, behind a wrecked car. Follow the wall to your right directly after the Stranded rushes toward you, yelling about the Locusts killing everyone. You’ll come to a wrecked car, and find this collectible behind the car, near a Gorgon pistol.
Collectible #18: COG Tags: Hank Bissell
You’ll find the COG Tags of collectible number 18 just inside a building and to the left (before you leave), right after being saved by Cole.
Chapter 5: Captivity (Collectible number 19 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible #19: Stranded Journal (Jennifer)
You’ll find collectible number 19 directly after releasing Baird from his jail cell. Turn around the following corner to the right and head down a short path. You’ll find the journal there.
Chapter 6: Intestinal Fortitude (Collectibles numbered 20 and 21 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #20: Car Gold Magazine
At the start of the chapter, go to your left to find a magazine on the floor, the Car Gold Magazine, which will be collectible number 20 if you’ve followed the guide. This will now earn you the Pack Rat Achievement.
Collectible #21: COG Tags
You will find collectible number 20, some COG Tags, after you find Carmine. However, before you turn the corner, keep your eye out for these COG Tags on the floor to your left. They will be against the left wall. Look hard and pay attention, because these COG Tags are hard to find since it is black and dark around these parts.
ACT 3 – GATHERING STORM
Chapter 1: Dirty Little Secret
Time to take another break! There are no collectibles on this Chapter.
Chapter 2: Origins (Collectibles numbered 22, 23 and 24 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #22: Interoffice Memo
You’ll find collectible number 22 after blowing up the door. To your right as soon as you enter the room will be a small office. Next to a Boltok Pistol, you’ll find the Interoffice Memo which is collectible number 22.
Collectible #23: Memo (Dr Doug Sato)
You’ll find collectible number 23, the Memo to Dr. Doug Sato, in a small room to the right side of the main hallway after you have taken care of the wretches using the security system. However to enter the room you will need to break the wall down first, the memo is inside.
Collectible #24: New Hope Medical File
Collectible number 24 is located later in the chapter. You’ll reach a room that has a few roof turrets. To turn them off you’ll press a switch in the back of the room. Behind the switch you will find a small room. Inside is the New Hope Medical File that is collectible number 24.
Chapter 3: Rude Awakening (Collectibles numbered 25 and 25 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #25: Doctor’s Journal
To get this collectible, DON’T GO INTO THE TRAIN! Before you board it after exiting the facility, head right instead and go into the small building. To the back, on the floor, you will find collectible number 26, the Doctor’s Journal.
Collectible #26: Captivity Marks
Before you board the final train in this chapter, you’ll want to turn around and go inside the building behind where you’re going. Inside you’ll find collectible number 26, Captivity Marks, scratched on to the wall.
Chapter 4: Ascension
Rest up! There are no collectibles in this chapter.
Chapter 5: Displacement (Collectible numbered 27 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible 27: Stranded’s Journal
When you reach the point where you must destroy the gunboat, be sure to check the center of the area. Now go all the way to the top of the stairs. Here you will find collectible number 27, Stranded’s Journal.
Chapter 6: Brackish Waters
Phew! You deserve another break! There are no collectibles in Chapter 6.
ACT 4 – HIVE
Chapter 1: Priorities (Collectible number 28 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible #28: Locust Terminal
BEFORE you activate the first terminal in this room where you need to search for Maria, first check the second terminal instead. Doing so will give you collectible number 28, the Locust Terminal.
Chapter 2: Answers (Collectible number 29 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible #29: Locust Prisoner’s Journal
After taking out the Drones, Mauler and Theron Guard, look to your left near the cavern wall (BEFORE checking the terminal!). There you will find collectible number 29, the Locust Prisoner’s Journal.
Chapter 3: Hornet’s Nest (Collectibles numbered 30 and 31 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #30: Locust Jailer Document
You’ll find this collectible, numbered 30, as soon as you start the level. Go downstairs from where you entered, head right and go down the small corridor. There you’ll find the Locust Jailer Document on the ground.
Collectible #31: Human Finger Necklace
Collectible number 31 is one of the easiest to miss, so pay attention. When you defeat the two Grinders that come out of the large doors, you must Roadie Run in order to enter the small room with the Troika before the door closes on you, barring you from entering. Now be on your toes again, because as soon as you kill the Grinders you’ll need to Roadie Run right past them and follow the road until you see a door start to close in front of you. Now turn right and up the stairs. If you did it right and were fast enough, you’ll make it through just as a second door starts to close. You’re price is a necklace made of human fingers, and collectible number 31.
Chapter 4: No Turning Back (Collectibles numbered 32 and 33 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #32: Locust Calendar
This collectible is easily found. As soon as the chapter begins, you’ll see this Locust Calender against the left wall. You can’t miss it, cause it’s glowing with orange lights.
Collectible #33: Locust Defensive Plans
Once you’ve reached some stairs that overlook a Kantus and a large locust, turn left. Now pull the lever to extend the stairs for the bridge. After crossing the bridge turn to your left. You’ll find collectible number 33, the Locust Defense Plans at the end of the room.
Chapter 5: The Best-Laid Plans (Collectibles numbered 34 and 35 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #34: Locust Invasion Map
You’ll find colllectible number 34 located before you get on the lift. Turn to the right instead. Look for a doorway on the right side. You’ll find the Locust Invasion Map.
Collectible #35: Trinity of Worms
To get this collectible, before you head down the spiral staircase, turn around and climb the staircase behind you where the Grinder was. You’ll find this collectible as a pattern on the floor called the “Trinity of Worms” and it is collectible number 35, you’ll see it at the bottom of the stairs.
Chapter 6: Royal Inquisition (Collectible number 36 is found in this Chapter)
Collectible #36: Locust Tablets
This collectible is easily found near the beginning of the Chapter. You’ll find it right after the computer room. There will be tablets on the floor that are in between two pillars, found near the end of the room.
ACT 5 – AFTERMATH
Chapter 1: Escape
Things about to get hairy. So take this break and enjoy it. While you can. Because there are no collectibles in this chapter.
Chapter 2: Desperate Stand (Collectibles numbered 37 and 38 are found in this Chapter)
Collectible #37: COG Recon Report
You will find collectible number 37 after the locust has been cleared off by the Raven. Now head right and take the stairs to the lower level. Next to some ammo you’ll find collectible number 37, the COG Recon Report.
Collectible 38: COG Tags: Sergeant Devon Jackson
You’ll find collectible number 38, COG Tags of Sergeant Devon Jackson, when you are fighting the Brumaks. The tags are located at the far end of the platform, down some steps. You’ll see them next to the Longshot.
Chapter 3: Free Parking (Collectibles 39 and 40 are found in this Chapter)
Collectibles in this chapter: 2 (#39 and #40)
Collectible 39: Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper
Collectible number 39, the Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper, is found following the battle with the Wretches and Maulers (with a Troika in the middle). After that fight, in the next area you should find yourself up against a Grinder in the middle. Look to your right, and you’ll find the newspaper behind a wall. This is found right before Marcus and Dom split up.
Collectible 40: COG Tags
At the end of this Chapter, you’ll find collectible number 40, GOG Tags. These are found inside a ruined building to the left side of the street, right after you defeat the Reaver. Note that you can also get this by reloading the Tenous Footing Chapter, and then turning around and running back to the building.
Chapter 4: Tenuous Footing (Collectible number 41, the final Collectible, is found in this Chapter)
Collectible 41: Stranded’s Journal
To find the final collectible, you will reach a point where you have fallen down several floors. Now you need to jump out into the next area. Look to the far right corner. You should see a desk, behind it is the Stranded’s Journal. This is collectible 41. Congratulations! You have just found every collectible in the game, and collecting this final one will earn you the Completionist Achievement, worth 30 GamerPoints!
