Borderlands: Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot DLC announced

Borderlands second downloadable content has been announced as “Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot”, in a not-so-subtle nod to Mel Gibson’s infamous Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome film.

It will be released on December 29, 2009 (TOMORROW!) on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points. PlayStation 3 fans will have to wait a bit before they get their DLC love, which drops on January 7, 2010 for $10. And a PC version will also be made available as well (but a date wasn’t given).

Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot is an intense single-player or cooperative experience (an all-new mode!) that expands the mayhem by adding three new Riot Mode arenas where players will endure an onslaught of Pandora’s baddest enemies.

Working together, players will fend off the masses as they fight for fame, honor, and more importantly, loot. Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot also adds a new bank feature, which allows players extra storage capacity for when they encounter one of the more than 16 million weapons that Borderlands has to offer; and the ability to acquire two additional skill points as quest rewards, making their characters even more powerful than before.

The developers have described the new mode this way: “Think ODST’s ‘Firefight’ or Gears of War’s ‘Horde Mode.’ Cash, prizes and competition! It’s like Smash TV in co-op FPS, but in the Borderlands.”

And here is the official tagline: “Are you god’s gift to gun fights? Think you’re the best? Wanna prove it? Then help us celebrate the grand opening of Marcus Bank (a subsidiary of Marcus Corp) by killing hundreds and hundreds of people in Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, the only competitive arena around where your next of kin can be assured that you’re coming back famous… or not at all.
