Looking for the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Star Coins? This guide will show you the locations of all the big hidden coins in the game. They are spread throughout the levels and give the game more replay value for those players willing to hunt them down (for some extra prizes).
The Star Coins hunt is worth the effort, because collecting all of them in each of the 8 worlds unlocks another new level in world 9!
WORLD 1 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-1
1. After the checkpoint. Use the Propeller Suit to get it.
2. Go in the pipe in the spinning ground section after the checkpoint. The coin is between two pipes.
3. On the higher route, just before the signpost (easy to miss if you’re on the lower route).
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-2
1. Just after entering the level near the roof.
2. Enter the top-right pipe above the first controlled platform. Use the P Block to turn the coins into blocks leading to the Star Coin.
3. After the checkpoint, you’ll see the Star Coin below that you can’t reach. Enter the bricked in pipe and use the P Block.
After the checkpoint, you’ll find a bricked-in green pipe (as well as the coin just beyond, which you can’t reach). Butt-stomp through the bricks to and enter the pipe. Underground, hit the P-Switch on the right side of the room to cause the coin to drop down.

COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-3
1. Above a horizontal pipe in plain view shortly into the level.
2. Shortly after the checkpoint, hidden among three pipes of varying height. Enter the yellow pipe. Jump off Yoshi or a teammate to get the Star Coin.
3. Above a red pipe before the end of the level. Leap off Yoshi or a teammate to reach it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1 FORTRESS
1. You’ll see it by the first swinging platform.
2. Right before the checkpoint in a hidden shaft in the top-right corner. Use the three swings to reach it.
3. After the checkpoint, in the right-side shaft.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-4
1. Above a pipe after the checkpoint, guarded by a Cheep Cheep.
2. In between two bubble-spewing pipes. Freeze a Cheep Cheep with the Ice Flower to get it, by riding on top of it as it floats up.
3. Just after the second Star Coin is the third. It’s behind a bubble-spewing pipe guarded by an Urchin. After freezing the Urchin like 3 times, it will sink to the bottom blocking the bubbles. Now you have access to the coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-5
1. Where there are three circular tracks, use the Propeller Suit to reach a walkway above. The left-most block leads to a hidden area by climbing the beanstalk. Now ride the blocks to get the Star Coin.
2. Right side of the spinning green block (before the first screw), before the checkpoint.
3. Near the end of the spinning red blocks, just above a Paratroopa.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1-6
1. Found above a spinning ground section. Make a running jump from the steady ground before the third circling section that has the coin above. You’ll be able to reach it without having to jump on any enemies.
2. Found on a platform near a spinning ground section. Jump toward the coin atop a small platform from the circling section behind it. You’ll be able to reach it without any help.
3. Just below the checkpoint is a hidden alcove containing a pipe — get into it by leaping from the left side of the spinning-ground section. After warping inside the pipe, simply leap to the platform on the right where you’ll find the already visible coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 1 CASTLE
1. Easily spotted.
2. Unreachable until you let a Thwomp above, fall down to smash the barrier. Giving you access to it.
3. Enter the green pipe near the boss dear. Inside, hit the P Block before collecting any coins, now run along the newly formed bricks and wall jump to get the Star Coin.
WORLD 2 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-1
1. Easily spotted, use the sand shooting up to get it.
2. In a crevice with a Piranha Plant on top of the wall. Slide down the bit of wall and keep holding left to get it.
3. Easily spotted beneath a slim platform. Use the Propeller Suit to reach it. In multiplayer, have a player jump for it then turn into a bubble (by pressing A) before they fall into the abyss below.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-2
1. Before the checkpoint is a shaft of quicksand. Ride it down and enter the pipe. Run to the end of the area (don’t enter the green pipe, which leads to the exit) and use the yellow upside down switch to reach the Star Coin.
2. Hit the left-most block at this area to reveal a beanstalk (reach it via the moving platform below, leap when it’s at its highest point). Ride the platform and grab the P Block (but don’t use it yet). Wait until you are below the Star Coin then use the P Block to make it drop onto you.
3. Enter the mini pipe near the end of the level and wall jump to reach this Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-3
1. Easily spotted at the bottom of a yellow “pyramid”.
2. On the lower route after the checkpoint, just below the Fire-Spitting Bro.
3. At the top of the long slope before the end of the stage. Use a nearby platform and jump to the ceiling. You’ll find a secret area with the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-4
1. Near the second ladder are three hidden blocks, one is a vine. Climb it and you’ll see the Star Coin. Hit both visible and invisible blocks to reveal a path and more vines to reach the coin.
2. You must have a Propeller Suit or multiple players to reach this Star Coin. Enter the pipe directly after the checkpoint. You’ll see the Star Coin. Use the Propeller Suit to reach it or Bubble Up by pressing A in multiplayer.
3. Across from a hill near the end of the level, use a Propeller Suit to reach it, wall jumping off the wall and onto the platform above to avoid death.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-5
1. Hidden in a cloud after the third tree. Use Yoshi or a Lakitu cloud to get it.
2. Before the checkpoint you’ll find a Piranha Plant on top of a secret area. Kill it by spitting out a Lakitu Spiny onto it. Once underground, have Yoshi grab the Light Block so you can see and flutter jump to reach the Star Coin.
3. Directly above and to the right of the yellow “pyramid” full of Cactus enemies called Pokey’s. Use Lakitu’s cloud to reach it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2 FORTRESS
1. Easily spotted on the left side of the shaft near the top of the first room. Use the swinging gate to reach it
2. Immediately to the right of the checkpoint is a hidden area in the wall.
3. Right before the boss, hop the fences to get it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2-6
1. Easily visible past the first item box.
2. A green pipe at the top near some bricks at the end of the track leads to the Star Coin. Inside the pipe, use the propeller item in the corner or a Propeller Suit to reach the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible, located just after the “P Block” before the red-coin ring.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 2 CASTLE
1. After the level starts quickly take the middle route which leads to the Star Coin. Or use the Propeller Suit to reach the top route (or a teammates head in multiplayer).
2. Easily spotted after the three-route section. Break the bricks and wall jump to reach it.
3. Above the lava after the second three-route path. Use the “P Block” to turn the coins into blocks and run across the lava to get the Star Coin.
WORLD 3 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3-1
1. Easily visible. Use the Penguin Suit to slide through the blocks to get it.
2. Lower route after the checkpoint. Freeze the Piranha Plant and use him as a step to reach the Star Coin.
3. Using the Penguin Suit to slide and break the blocks leading to this pipe, freeze one of the penguins and ride him to reach the Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3-2
1. Easily visible, use a Bullet Bill to reach the Star Coin.
2. A green pipe below a calvacade of Bullet Bills takes you to the room with the Star Coin. To reach the Star Coin at the top, time your jumps to bounce off the Bullet Bills.
3. Easily visible on a sloped platform near the top of the screen. Run and jump or use a Bullet Bill to get it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3-3
1. Next to an ice pillar with a blue coin box ontop is a floating platform. Wait for the platform to float away from the pillar, then walk into it for a hidden area.
2. Easily visible.
3. After the checkpoint, there is a Star Coin at the end of a section that you can’t fit into. In order to get it, go back to the other side of the area, pick up the barrel and toss it through the gap to get the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3 GHOST HOUSE
1. Hidden area directly to the left of the start of the level.
2. A hidden alcove to the left of a series of ropes in the second room contains the Star Coin.
3. This Star Coins well hidden on the way to the level’s Alternate Exit. In the room with the rope on the ceiling is a hidden door. Follow the rope until you are positioned above the first moving platform on the left-most side until the platform is all the way to the left. Now wait for it to move away then drop off the rope. You’ll land in a hidden area with a door that leads to a hidden area. Here there is a shaft with a floor that begins to move slowly, then drops suddenly. After the first drop, you’ll find the Star Coin inside a hidden alcove along the right wall.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3-4
1. Easily visible, above the Fire Bro.
2. A hidden area inside an oddly shapped large platform (with two red blocks on either side) contains the Star Coin. Duck under then leap up to get it.
3. Near the end of the level after a series of moving platforms. Easily visible.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3 FORTRESS
1. There is a door inside a hidden alcove on the right wall of a large spinning squre that has an item box in the center. Inside the door is another rotating square with a Star Coin.
2. Located at the top of a tall elevator shaft. The Star Coin is blocked by bricks. These bricks can only be broken by the rolling spiked balls which in turn are destroyed by the two POW Blocks. Activate the first POW Block before the balls appear. For the second, carry it through and don’t throw it until the balls have rolled through the top bricks, creating a path for you to reach the Star Coin at the end.
3. Just before the boss, jump from the spinning blue L-shaped platform and wall jump off the right wall to the short wall to the left, then from there to the space above it where the Star Coin is.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3-5
1. Easily visible.
2. Only obtainable after activating the Red-Switch Block on the world map, which turns the Red Outlined Blocks into solid Red Blocks. This lets you access a red pipe at the top of the first section. The Star Coin is then easily visible inside the pipe.
3. The third Star Coin is a bit further up from the second Star Coin, see above.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 3 CASTLE
1. Easily visible. Use the rubber balls to reach it.
2. Easily visible, destroy the Ice Blocks with the Bob-Ombs to get it.
3. Easily visible when you’re forced to follow the moving ice path.
WORLD 4 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4-1
1.Use the Penguin Suit and freeze a Piranha Plant that is underwater. It’ll float to the top where you can use it as a platform to reach this Star Coin.
2. Freeze an Urchin and use him as a platform to reach the second Star Coin.
3. At the top of the highest vertical pipe by the exit for the level.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4-2
1. Easily visible on the floating barrel.
2. Easily visible, hang from the ledge to get it.
3. Easily visible. Wait on the higher platform, when it drops below, sidle along the ledge. Then simply pull yourself onto the platform below the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4-3
1. Easily visible above the item box.
2. Easily visible. Use a Penguin Suit and slide then jump on the water, or use a Mini Mushrom to get it without getting hit.
3. Enter the Mini Pipe as Mini Mario to get this Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4 GHOST HOUSE
1. In the second room you’ll find wooden platforms that rise and sink. The Star Coin is hidden on the sixth platform, wait for it to lower and you’ll see it.
2. A hidden area to the right of the door at the end holds this Star Coin in the third room.
3. The third Star Coin is hidden inside the Ghost House’s alternate exit. To get it, you’ll find a door at the base of a lowering platform (just under an Item Box). Once inside the door, you can see the Star Coin near the roof of the room.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4-4
1. After the checkpoint you’ll find a P Block on the ceiling. Hitting it disables a number of pipe bubbles spewing ahead. Follow the Blue Coins to a yellow pipe and enter it before the bubbles come back! Now use the Penguin Suit and freeze a Cheep Cheep fish to reach the Star Coin.
2. Easily visible between two green pipes.
3. A straight vertical wall isn’t a wall at all. Run into it and you’ll find the Star Coin inside this hidden area, near the level’s exit.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4 FORTRESS
1. Easily visible. Use the boxes on the conveyer built to reach the Star Coin.
2. Just below the checkpoint, on the right wall is a hidden alcove containing the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible. On the left side of a room with boxes that fall from conveyer builts. Be quick or risk getting squashed.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4-5
1. Easily visible. Use Yoshi or Lakitu’s Cloud to reach it.
2. In the sky, some coins above a tree point to it. Use Lakitu’s Cloud to get the Star Coin above or leap off Yoshi from the Palm Tree.
3. Inside a hidden Pipe above a very tall Palm Tree. Use Lakitu’s Cloud and get the Star Coin inside the pipe.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4 CASTLE
1. Easily visible on the backside of a gate. Use the panels on another gate to switch to the backside, then navigate to the gate that has the Coin behind it.
You’ll find the first coin behind this gate. If you don’t already know, you can spin around to the backside of the gate via any of the panels embedded inside them–you’ll find one both before and after the coin. After flipping behind, you can then navigate to the coin.
2. Easily visible shortly after the first Star Coin. This one is on the floor smashed directly in the middle of two spiked logs that will crush you from either side. Be quick to get this without getting hit.
3. Contained in the Green Pipe below the boss door. Once safe, enter the pipe.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 4 AIRSHIP
1. Easily visible. Blocked by a flame. Wait until it goes away to get it.
2. A pipe below some breakable boxes holds the second Star Coin. Butt-stomp to bust the boxes, enter the pipe, then jump on the screw to reach the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible but sealed off by a box. Use a Bob-Omb to break the box and grab the Star Coin.
WORLD 5 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5-1
1. Before the checkpoint and Item Box, you’ll see a round, green structure in the background (which is the top part of a large green obscured Koopa Shell). A little before it you’ll see a gap in the floor. Butt-stomp it to find the coin to the right, inside the green object.
2. Swim inside a large Green Koopa Shell to find this Star Coin.
3. Near the pipe leading to the end of the level, you’ll see a Green Turtle Shell embeded at the top of the wall. Use the vine to jump inside it. Once in the pipe, use the POW Block to get the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5-2
1. Near the end of the first area, easily visible. Use a POW Block or Wiggler to get it.
2. Easily visible when underground. Bounce off the large Wiggler.
3. Leap to the roof after the section where you ride the large Wiggler. This leads to the third Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5-3
1. When you see the first star coin, go into the green pipe before it. Once you’re warped down, you’ll be able to get the Propeller Suit that will help you fly to the coin once above ground again.
2. Easily visible after the checkpoint. Use a Koops Shell to break the blocks to get the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible underneath some donut blocks. Let one of the two drop down, grab the coin and quickly wall-jump up to safety.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5 GHOST HOUSE
1. Jump through the gap and head through the first door in the first room. Now go to the second room and you’ll find a hidden area in the rightside wall with the Star Coin.
2. Drop down the first gap you see from the first room. Then also drop down the second gap and go throug the door. You’ll be in a room of Bone Fish, and the Star Coin is just past the door on the other side of the room.
3. Also in the first room, enter the first gap, then jump the second and climb the stairs. Now drop into the gap beyond it, you’ll see two doors. Enter the right to find the Star Coin encircled by Boos.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5-4
1. Use an Ice Flower to freeze the enemies dropping down around the first coin. Use the frozen enemies as a step up to higher ground and jump to grab it.
2. Hold onto the POW Block, you’ll need it to get this Star Coin. When you are below a spot that has two coins in a straight line, throw the POW Block to cause the Star Coin to drop onto the raft from above.
3. Located at the end of the level. Use a Bob-Omb to break the bricks above it, and drop down as the raft passes under you.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5 FORTRESS
1. Located at the right side of a spiked shaft.
2. Right after the checkpoint, you’ll find the Star Coin on the left section of the shaft, which is exposed as the spiked wall recedes. Grab it quickly!
3. Directly to the right of the Boss Door inside the bricks. Time it right to break them and get the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5-5
1. Visible between the clouds at the start of the level. Either jump to get it, or use the helicopter block you can get on a platform before it to fly to it.
2. Inside a lone cloud shortly after the checkpoint, Propeller into it.
3. Located above a group of coins that form a “W”. You must use a POW Block to make it fall.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 5 CASTLE
1. Visible floating above lava after the beginning of the level. Slide down the wall and avoid the lava to grab it. Or use the Propeller Suit to reach it.
2. On the upper left of the circulate grate is a hidden area with a door. The Star Coin is inside. Wait for the moving grate in the middle to come up. Climb it, while avoiding the lava, and them jump to grab it.
3. Easily visible after the checkpoint. Reach it via the highest point of the moving grate next to it.
WORLD 6 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-1
1. Located above the spike-ball-tossing enemy. Use a Propeller Suit to reach it easiest.
2. Easily reachable just beyond the checkpoint.
3. In a crevice to the upper left just after the last cave. You need to have a Propeller Suit or a second player to reach it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-2
1. Easily discoverable, it’s in a conceiled area on the side of a short piece of ground with a break at the bottom. Use a spiny to break the brick and get the Star Coin.
2. Above a Green Pipe with a Piranha Plant. Use a Propeller Suit or lure a bat and jump off it to reach the Star Coin.
3. At the section with the two adjacent rolling-ground pieces, wait until the second one rolls all the way to reveal a pipe. Enter it to find the Star Coin. Use the P Block.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-3
1. Located above a big Piranha Plant. You need to kill it using a Buzzy Beetle. Now wait for the platform to be at its height and wall jump to reach it.
2. Easily visible, use the same method as above by killing the Piranha Plant.
3. Located in a hallway with lots of Piranha Plants. You can enter two areas by wall jumping at the top. The left leads to a Fire Flower. The right leads to the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-4
1. Located high up in the air at the start of the level. To reach it, either use the Propeller Suit or jump up with Yoshi and hold the jump button to make Yoshi float just high enough to reach the coin.
2. You’ll find a pipe inside a gap immediatly after the checkpoint. Use Yoshi’s flutter jump or a Propeller Suit to reach it in the bottom-right-hand corner.
3. A hiden area above the balance-platforms contains the Star Coin. Rais the right side of the first Balance platform by standing on the left. This allows you to wall jump or use Yoshi to reach the area above, containing the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6 FORTRESS
1. The Star Coin is inside a hidden alcove to the left side of the wall.
2. Directly after the checkpoint, easily visible. Wall jump to reach it, avoiding the spike.
3. On the right-side of the area right before the Boss Door where there are multiple moving platforms.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-5
1. Easily visible. Wait for the water to go down for easy access.
2. Easily visible. Cross the ledge first, then take the “stairs” down, while the water is down, to reach it.
3. Near the end of the level, you’ll find four Item Blocks. In the middle of them is a hidden block that spawns a vine (and takes you to the level’s alternate exit that leads to the world’s final castle). Once up the vine, use the Propeller Block to find the Star Coin in the sky just after the second winged-block.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6-6
1. Obscured by the darkness just before a rooftop green pipe with a Piranha Plant. Reach it by using the platform with the POW Block and jump from the platform above it.
2. Easily visible near the roof. Use the second spring in this level to reach it.
3. Use a Propeller Block to reach a high ledge containing the Star Coin to the upper left near the end of the level.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6 CASTLE
1. On top of a brick walkway just after the platform partially made of swinging boxes. Leap from that last brick onto the walkway above.
2. Easily visible near the roof after the first Star Coin above a swinging platform. Use the two questionmark blocks that are closest to each other as a stairs to reach it.
3. Just before the Boss Door, leap from the right edge of the final rocking platform when it is at its highest point.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 6 AIRSHIP
1. Easily visible. Butt-stomp the breakable boxes.
2. Butt-stomp the breakable boxes blocking this Green Pipe. Then navigate to the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible.
WORLD 7 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-1
1. Easily visible. Leap off the purple block when it’s at its height and wall jump of the red pipe.
2. After the checkpoint enter the smallest yellow pipe. You’ll find the Star Coin at the end of the platforms just past the exit pipe. Use the platform that rises and falls to get the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible near the exit pipe. Ride the purple platform until it’s at its height to reach the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-2
1. Butt-stomp the pole holding the Chain Chomp near the bricked off Star Coin. Make sure he is facing the bricks when you stomp for the third time, releasing him.
2. Inside a Green Pipe (which may or may not be obscured by clouds) that is next to a giant Bullet Bill Cannon.
3. Located between two Chain Chomps.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-3
1. After the third arrow-sign, you’ll see the coin moving around a set path. Time your jump to grab it.
2. There is a section with tracks going all over, and a blue mushroom platform across from a smaller yellow one. Jump to that platform and jump in the air to hit a hidden block. Climb the vine and use the P Block without touching any coins to reach the Star Coin.
3. Just stay on the moving platform that follows a path in the last part of the level. You’ll be able to grab it easily.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7 GHOST HOUSE
1. Easily visible. Lure the boxing ghost to get it.
2. After dropping from the long shaft, you’ll land in an area with five doors. Take the upper right door and retrieve the Star Coin from the Giant Boo who guards it.
3. Climb up the first room to just past the first fake door. You will see a wall with a hole in it. A boxing ghost nearby will break that wall when lured. Now enter the newly unveiled door. The door in the top-left corner of this room will take you back outside. Now instead of heading to the flagpole, go to the door on the ground-floor. Inside is the Star Coin, which you can get by using the P Block.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-4
1. Easily visible. Bounce off the Giant Bullet Bill.
2. Easily visible shortly after the checkpoint.
3. Continue past the Red Pipe at the end of the level that leaves to the exit, and enter the small green one instead (which a sign points to). There you will find the Star Coin atop a massive group of Bullet Bill launchers.
Skip past the seemingly final red pipe (by the sign pointing up to it) to find another pipe high above. To reach it, you’ll have to bounce off a Bullet Bill (remember to hold “up” as soon as you bounce off it to ensure you enter the pipe). After warping, head left to find the coin atop a pile of Bullet Bill launchers–just be careful of the bullets themselves! After grabbing it, you can reach the pipe on the right similar to the one before.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7 FORTRESS
1. Located at the top of the first elevator section, just below the pipe. Tilt the platform up and leap to reach the Star Coin.
2. This Star Coin is very easy to miss. At the end of the first room, before you go into the pipe with the sign pointing to it. Ride the elevator to the top and then jump for a hidden block at the end. Jump on the now visible block to the roof and run to the right for a hidden pipe and the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible on the left side before the Boss Door. Pick up a Bob-Omb you’ve jumped on and carry it to the blocks, allowing it to detonate to do this easily.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-5
1. Easily visible on at the beginning of the level, though may be obscured by the second cloud maker.
2. Easily visible just beyond the checkpoint. Hit the blocks to the right to find a P Block, which will turn the coins below the Star Coin into bricks you can stand on. Or naturally you can use a Propeller Suit to reach it.
3. Just before the flagpost at the end of the level are three Cloud Makers, the bottom one blocks a hidden area with the Star Coin. Kill it to get past.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7-6
1. Easily visible, use a small Para-Beetle and ride it.
2. Easily visible above a line of coins. Ride a small Para-Beetle to get it.
3. The third Star Coin is obscured by clouds at the bottom of the screen after the “staircase” of Large Para-Beetles. Use the Propeller Suit or Yoshi to get it.

COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 7 CASTLE
1. Easily visible above some bricks. Use the Dry Bones enemy to get it.
2. After the Hammer Bros. there is a pipe in between the two spiked pillars. Once inside the pipe, you’ll find it in the upper-right hand corner.
3. In between rows of spiked columns on either side with an Item Box in the middle, is where you will find the Star Coin in the crevice above (just jump then wall jump up to it).
WORLD 8 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-1
1. Located in the air. Easily reachable with a jump, if you stick to the high-ground on the swaying mushroom platforms.
2. Shortly after the checkpoint you’ll find two half-circles of coins above you. Use the POW Block and the Star Coin will fall from the second platform.
3. You’ll find the Star Coin beyond the tall vertical stack of bricks and you’ll see the Star Coin encased by breakable bricks.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-2
1. Easily visible past the first pair of goombas up some platforms.
2. Beyond two horizontal pipes after the checkpoint (Red and Yellow) you’l find the Star Coin in a hidden alcove underneath the pipes.
3. Underneath the level exit pipe is a hidden area with the final Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-3
1. Easily visible.
2. Easily visible shortly after the checkpoint there is a gap in the lava with the coin.
3. Easily visible, just be quick to avoid the lava.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-4
1. In the second room, there Star Coin is on the roof above. Enter through a gap in the ceiling and run left past the third spike-ball dropping enemies.
2. Easily visible in the third room with lit jellyfish. Use the P Block to get the encased Star Coin.
3. The last Star Coin is in the dark, tall shaft full of jellyfish. You’ll find the Star Coin in an alcove in the upper left below the second pipe.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8 FORTRESS
1. Easily reachable at the start of the level, just avoid the fire.
2. Hidden directly below the checkpoint is a hidden alcove you can jump into from below. Go through the door to get the Star Coin.
3. Easily visible, duck and slide to get it.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-5
1. Easily visible above a small platform you must pass.
2. To get the second Star Coin, you must use the only Bob-Omb that drops down on a parachute around its location between two lava eruptions. The Star Coin is located below the rideable platform, so you must throw the Bob-Omb at it.
3. Easily visible, jump as the platform drops or use the attacking birds.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-6
1. Easily visible above you when riding the moving platform with a spring on it. Naturally you’ll use the spring to reach the Star Coin.
2. You’ll find this Star Coin up a left-side shaft with coins leaving up above some lava. Use walljumps to reach it. A Propeller Suit can get it too.
3. Easily visible, on the final swinging platform near the exit.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8-7
1. Easily visible while riding the second bone-coaster.
2. Easily visible after the first checkpoint.
3. After the checkpoint shortly after riding the second coaster, another track will appear above you. Instead of jumping on it, keep riding and you’ll see the third Star Coin.
The first part of the video shows where to unlock 8-7. Skip to 2:38 minutes for level 8-7.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8 AIRSHIP
1. Easily visible at the start. Jump on a canonball to reach it.
2. Easily visible. As you ride a screw platform, you’ll see two mechanic windup koopas walk next to the Star Coin. Time your jump up to the other side of where they walk, when they are to the most left or right, and you’ll grab the Star Coin.
3. A little later in the level, a left-side lone screw will reveal this Star Coin. Turning the screw will raise the platform. Get the Star Coin using the Propeller Suit. If you don’t have that suit and you’re in co-op, one of you can grab it by jumping to his/her death.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 8 CASTLE
1. Stand on the platform above the coin when you come across it (clearly visible). The platform will drop until you get the Star Coin.
2. Easily visible on the right side wall when you go down in the level. Jump up from a dropping platform near it to grab it.
3. During the Bowser chase sequence, the final Star Coin is just beyond the second Item Box. Don’t get distracted by the stash of coins on the bottom route. Stay on the upper route to lure the fireballs and gain easy access to the last Star Coin.
WORLD 9 STAR COINS
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-1
1. Jump from a yellow platform to a group of three Para-Troopas when they are at their top height. Easier with a Propeller Suit.
2. When the turning platform to the left of the second Star Coin’s location is at its highest, time your jump on the flying Para-Trooper to get a boost to grab it. Again, easier with a Propeller Suit.
3. Go in the pipe with the third fire-spitting Piranha Plant (between the yellow and red turning platforms). When you see the third Star Coin, time your jump from the turning platform to land on the flying Para-Trooper to hop on to the Star Coin. Once again, easier with a Propeller Suit.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-2
1. Easily visible above the water. Stand on the platform above and you’ll go down until you can grab it.
2. A little further into the level. Stand on a wide platform until it drops low enough, revealing a walk-in entry to the vertical green pipe. If an enemy drops onto the platform and sinks it too low, move off-screen and come back and it’ll be returned to its default position. Once gone in, you’ll enter a water section with the Star Coin in the middle.
3. Easily visible, use a Koopa Shell on the bricks.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-3
1. Directly past the second arrow sign is a pipe. Drop down the middle of the hole in the ground to the right of the second arrow sign. In the pipe is a large room with a Star Coin blocked by bricks. The P Block is the key.
2. In the clouds above is a second pipe beyond the first one (but before the exit pipe), as pointed to by coins. Use a Bullet Bill to reach the pipe, inside use the P Block.
3. In the final section with the big Banzai Bills beyond the fifth platform. Lure one of them nearby and jump it for a boost to reach the Star Coin. Or get the Star Coin with the Propeller Suit.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-4
1. Just beyond the POW Block. Wall jump off the blue pipe when it lowers.
2. Use a Bomb-Omb as the platform sinks to get this second Star Coin.
3. At the end of the first section you’ll see three pipes. Enter the green one to find the last Star Coin. Freeze the Piranha Plant below that pops out of the red pipe.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-5
1. When there’s a gap between the penguins, go for it!
2. Don’t trigger the ?-switch. From a stand-still, simply use wall jumping techniques to reach it at the top above the small ice block.
3. Freeze a fuzzy on the track below and hop from him to the Star Coin.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-6
1. In a hidden alcove from the low circular track that moves into the lava. The alcove is on the right.
2. Simply wall-jump when the lava geysers have stopped.
3. Jump towards the platform holding the Star Coin when the up-and-down moving platform before it is at its lowest point. As always, Propeller Suit makes your life easier here.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-7
1. Jump to it before the platform melts!
2. Beneath a frozen walkway. Stand above the Star Coin to the left and let the Piranha Plants melt things for you.
3. This one is tricky but easier to get with multiple players. If playing alone equip a Propeller Suit and Star from the world map.
COINS HIDDEN ON WORLD 9-8
1. Use the Propeller Suit — from the item blocks right below it — to reach it.
2. Trailing a series of Fuzzies. Bounce or use a Propeller Suit.
3. Use the boxes above and wait until the Banzai Bill blasts through the structure below you, revealing the final Star Coin in the game. CONGRATULATIONS!

I have 4 stars. I believe after you get all the movies you will have 5 stars. Unless someone can tell me something different.
