New Super Mario Bros. Wii has no online multiplayer on purpose

New Super Mario Bros. Wii lacks an online multiplayer mode, much to the dismay of many Wii owners who would’ve liked to be able to play the game’s cooperative and competitive modes with their friends and family that live far away from them.
Now that the game has been released, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that he would have personally loved for the game to include online multiplayer . . . but the decision was left up to the guys in Japan who developed it.
To quote:
“They believe this experience, in the same room, to be elbowing your friends and family members as you’re playing the game is ideal. It was really their decision. I personally would have loved for it to be online capable as well, but having played the game, I really can’t fault it for not being online multiplayer. This was a decision made purely by the developers”
He also says that the games multiplayer is so good regardless that it will satisfy even the most “jaded, even your most competitive player.”
I think it’s very sad. The game should’ve had BOTH online and offline modes, especially in this day and age. Maybe we’ll see a sequel though that will include it, as you know the game will be a huge seller.
