Sony is about to introduce a way for North American gamers to play their ad-hoc PSP games online via the PlayStation 3.
Ad-hoc, in case you haven’t heard of it, essentially means “local” play. That is, you aren’t playing online but with people in the same room as you.
Already launched in Japan, this new service is called AdhocParty and is coming to North America “soon”, says Sony.
In order to play select PSP Adhoc games online, you’ll need to have a PS3 and you use that to hook up with other PSP players who are playing Adhoc titles. You can even use the PS3 headset or PlayStation Eye camera to chat and see/hear your opponents.
More details on the service will be released “soon”. But this is definitely a great idea and will give people more mileage out of their older PSP games.
